Maryland State Police report 506 DUI arrests for June 2015
On March 4 (Wednesday) at approximately 12:09 p.m., State Police responded to a call of a shooting on Interstate 95 near the 32 mile marker in Sussex County. A 2006 Freightliner tractor-trailer and a 2015 Subaru Outback were headed north on I-95 when the drivers began engaging with one another. Their behavior progressed to the point of the Subaru driving down the right shoulder, pulling up alongside the tractor-trailer and its driver shooting at the tractor-trailer
Nearly 40 firefighters responded from Waldorf, LaPlata, Brandywine, Baden, Hughesville and Bryans Road Fire Departments and extinguished the fire located just inside the front door within 5 minutes. Smoke and heat created by the fire spread throughout the store and caused approximately $400,000 in damage to the contents. An additional $100,000 is damage is estimated to the structure at the front of the business. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Maryland officials are scrambling statewide to find a way to reduce heroin use and the crescendo of overdose deaths linked to heroin and to that of a new/old synthetic drug called Molly, which killed two young people at a traveling dope show held last weekend at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md.
One particularly dangerous version of the toxic drug is a fentanyl-laced heroin.
Heroin was once the province of junkies in the inner city — desperate and degraded, shooting up in alleys and tenements of major cities.

The State Highway Administration (SHA) is working with CSX Transportation to manage traffic, publicize the closure, and inspect the project. CSX Transportation will perform all repairs and manage the traffic detours. Work includes removal of existing track and crossings, grading and preparation of the track beds, installation of new precast concrete crossing panels, reinstallation of rails and paving of the asphalt crossing approaches.
Since the targeted enforcement program was launched last May, SPIDRE teams have made 6,384 traffic stops resulting in 1,052 Driving Under the Influence (DUI) arrests and 211 criminal arrests. Funded by the Maryland Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office, SPIDRE focuses on reducing alcohol related crashes in Maryland by targeting areas across the state with high crash rates involving impaired drivers.
The I-Team’s review of Maryland State Highway Administration records found government work crews had removed more than 1,600 unlawfully placed road signs in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties over a recent four-month span. Crews pulled 450 more from state roads in Frederick, Howard and Carroll counties. Those signs include a large number of campaign advertisements, according to a state spokesman.
Once removed by crews, the campaign signs are deposited in storage areas at state garages. News4 I-Team cameras captured images of hundreds of signs piled near a salt dome at the state garage in Upper Marlboro. Advertisements for local and state candidates, including candidates from both parties, were among those retrieved.
Now is the time for the voters to consider all that they have learned from presentations in this publication of the candidates’ debate; from other news sources, from the candidate’s websites and particularly from viewing the photo of Captain Wide-load blocking whatever Sheriff Coffey was doing. What was Sheriff Coffey doing? We couldn’t see due to the wide-load rear end of Captain Rackey, who could see what the Sheriff was doing, and believed the better part of his ample rear end was just the valor that was called for to protect his boss.
A vote for Troy Berry for Sheriff of Charles County is recommended to our readers and it is high time that the old days of Sheriff’s making political decisions about law enforcement needs to end. It is time to move on to professional police departments.
Maryland already has track use agreements with CSX in the rest of Maryland and already owns and operates the MARC train system. Other regions of Maryland get more for transportation than does Southern Maryland.
