TAYLOR’S ISLAND, MD. — The Coast Guard responded to a 40-foot boat taking on water Sunday with five people aboard in Wicomico River near Taylor’s Island.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Baltimore received a report from the boat’s operator at approximately 5:20 p.m., stating the boat was taking on water.
The operator of a D.C. Duck Tours boat called authorities around noon Sunday saying there was a car submerged in the water near the Humpback Bridge and Interstate 395 and that he could see the silhouette of a person.
Divers recovered the body around 1:30 p.m. The car was pulled from the water by 4 p.m.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Coast Guard Cutter Vigorous marked its official arrival at its new homeport at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia Beach, Friday.
Vigorous is the first of two Medium Endurance Cutters from Cape May, New Jersey to be relocated to Little Creek. The Coast Guard Cutter Dependable is scheduled to arrive in 2015
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a boating safety class in an effort to promote safe boating practices. The Boating Safety Class is being presented by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary on Saturday, August 9, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Public Safety Center, 1125 Courthouse Road, Stafford 22554.
They said that a group of horses ran out of the shrubs and crossed the road. They immediately applied their brakes, but N2BHS-AG (Joy) was struck in his chest with the cooler rack that was attached to the front of the vehicle.
A 43-year-old man who was riding a wave on a boogie board struck his head on the sand and later complained of neck and hand pain around 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Cullen Street. One witness said he was found face down in the surf but EMS personnel said he never lost consciousness. He was loaded onto a backboard, placed on a stretcher, below, and taken by ambulance to Beebe Hospital
ANNAPOLIS, MD. — 07/17/2014 — Maryland Natural Resources Police officers Tuesday recovered the bodies of two men missing since the weekend.
At about 8:30 a.m., officers found the body of Daniel Isaac Lugo, 18, of Quarryville, Pa., at the mouth of the Susquehanna River, where it empties into the Chesapeake Bay.
Lugo had been swimming with family members Sunday afternoon in the shallow waters of an area known as Susquehanna Flats, when the family’s boat began to drift away. As Lugo went to retrieve the vessel, he began to flounder and call for help.
His stepfather jumped from the boat into the water and was able to grab Lugo’s shirt collar, but could not hold on.
Officers employed side-scan sonar to search Sunday evening and all day Monday. Shortly after resuming the search Tuesday morning, they located Lugo’s body.
