Theft: On 9/4/14 at 8:12 pm, Trooper Warrick responded to a theft complaint in the 1900 block of Kathy Court in Owings. The victim reported that cash and jewelry had been taken during a birthday party. A suspect has been developed and charges are pending.

On scene investigation revealed alcohol and speed to be contributing factors in the crash
The operator, Mark Jason Jastram, 29, of Hurlock had been driving his vessel back to his home port when he was thrown from the vessel for unknown reasons. Further investigation revealed that Jastram had been consuming alcoholic beverages prior to operating the vessel. Jastram failed field sobriety testing and refused a breath test for alcohol concentration. He was subsequently charged with operating a vessel while under the influence of alcohol, operating a vessel while impaired by alcohol, and negligent operation of a vessel. A trial date has been set for November 19 in Dorchester County District Court.
The driver and front-seat passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver is being identified as Thomas Christopher Collier, age 32, of the unit block of Delta Court in Gaithersburg. The front-seat passenger is being identified as Daniel Lee Byron, age 26, of the same address.
HOLLYWOOD, MD. – Maryland State Police report that on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 5:00 pm, Tpr. B. Ditoto initiated a traffic stop on a silver truck on St. John’s Road and Narrow Way for a minor traffic infraction, but it turned out that the motorist is popular with locals in the underworld of narcotics and those who investigate them. The driver, Jake Allen Clark, 24, of Lexington Park, was placed under arrest for three open warrants through St. Mary’s County. A search incident to arrest revealed suspected CDS and paraphernalia. Mr. Clark was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center and charged with CDS Possession – Marijuana, CDS Possession – Paraphernalia, CDS Possession – Not Marijuana, and CDS: Poss w/ Intent to Distribute. He was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
On 8/22/14 at 10:00 pm, Trooper First Class Barlow stopped a vehicle on Rt. 231 in the area of Mason Rd. in Prince Frederick for traffic violations. An odor of raw marijuana was emitting from inside the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed individually wrapped small baggies containing marijuana. Maurice L. Jones, 29 of Hughesville, was arrested for possession with intent to distribute marijuana. He was incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center
Upon arrival, officers witnessed a male, later identified as Lester A. Simpson, 32, of Salisbury, MD, attempting to move the vehicle out of the roadway and away from the scene.
During the on-scene investigation, officers determined that another male, later identified as Branden C. Whitley, 31, of Salisbury, was the driver of the vehicle at the time of the collision. Whitley had attempted to flee the scene on foot but was quickly located by officers nearby on 55th Street.
Stationary Traffic Safety Unit officers recorded the vehicle to be traveling at a steady speed of 98 mph in the area of 65th Street. Shortly after, the vehicle failed to control its speed and collided with a condominium building in the area of Coastal Highway and 72nd Street. The vehicle crashed into and destroyed electrical meters and an electrical box causing electrical fluid to saturate northbound Coastal Highway.
The collision caused northbound traffic to be rerouted to a single southbound lane for more than four hours as Ocean City Public Works and electrical crews worked to clean up the fluid spill and restore power to the building
Mister Booze and Drive Had Heat
LUSBY, MD. Police report that one DUI driver was loaded in more ways than one. On 8/17/14 at 3:05 am, Trooper First Class Wiesemann stopped a vehicle on HG Trueman Rd. near Town Square Dr. in Lusby for traffic violations. Charles W. Mister, 25, of Lusby, was speaking with slurred speech and the odor of alcohol was emitting from inside the vehicle and on his breath. He was arrested for DUI. A search incident to the arrest revealed a loaded handgun in the glove compartment. He was additionally charged with possession of a handgun. He was incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center.
