Lighthouses of the Chesapeake region

Lighthouses – St. Clements Island, also known through the years as Blackistone Island, now is home to a rebuilt lighthouse. The original was abandoned as a lighthouse and then vandalized prior to being demolished by the Navy as target practice. The island is now a park and the lighthouse is open several times a year for visitors. A beach and pier greet visitors every day. THE CHESAPEAKE TODAY photo

Indian Acres child molesting suspect nabbed by Spotsylvania deputies

Sheriff Roger L. Harris announced the arrest of Edward Alsop, 49 of Spotsylvania for the June 15, 2014 sexual battery of a juvenile victim at the Indian Acres campground in Spotsylvania County.

On June 15, 2014 Spotsylvania County Deputies responded to a 911 call to the Indian Acres Campground, located in the 6400 block of Morris Road. The caller advised that his seven year old son had been sexually attacked by an unknown subject, brandishing a knife in the bathroom, near the spot where the victim’s family was camping for the weekend.

Indian Acres security personnel had already begun establishing a perimeter and checking all vehicles approaching the main entrance and exit of the facility. Deputies, along with security personnel, began a sweep of the area, looking for a vehicle that matched the description given by the victim and his brother, (who had witnessed the suspect jump into a pickup truck and leave the scene).

According to St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Capt. Daniel Alioto, Vice/Narcotics detectives, working with Inspectors from the United States Postal Inspection Service, identified a possible package arriving in St. Mary’s County from the State of California containing a large quantity of marijuana.

A Hollywood, Maryland residence was identified as the destination and Jason Andrew Junge, 25, was identified as the target to which the drugs were sent.

Frederick County Md. 2014 primary election results; veteran Senator Brinkley sent packing by GOP voters

Sen. David Brinkley, the Senate minority leader, lost his primary race to Del. Michael Hough in a western Maryland district that includes much of Frederick County and some of Carroll County.

Hough is finishing his first term in the House of Delegates. Hough campaigned as the more conservative candidate. Brinkley made trips to Southern Maryland to campaign for Steve Waugh who is the GOP nominee running against Sen. Roy Dyson (D. Calvert, St. Mary’s). Brinkley’s time might have been better spent in his home district.
