Sept. 7, 2014) Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department- Major Crimes Division are investigating the death of a male who was struck by a CSX freight train in Gaithersburg this evening. At this time, detectives believe that there is no foul play involved in this death.

The ex-USS Saratoga (CV 60) on Thursday set off on its final voyage from Naval Station Newport in Rhode Island to the port of Brownsville, Texas where the ship will be dismantled.
The ex-Saratoga departed under tow by the Signet Maritime tug, MV Signet Warhorse III, in front of thousands of spectactors who lined the shores to get one last glimpse of the decorated ship.
The ship arrived in Newport Aug. 7, 1998 following 38 years of commissioned service with the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1994.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. — 08/18/2014 — A man who wrote with exceptional passion, according to many reviewers of his books, about the many tragic deaths caused by landmines left behind by war lords and modern armies, became a rolling land mine of his own last week when he allegedly drove while impaired and killed an Albemarle County Virginia resident.
The Albemarle County Police Department is investigating a fatal crash which occurred on Thursday, August 14th 2014.The crash occurred at 6:27 pm in the 9600 block of the Rockfish Gap Turnpike or Rt. 250 near Rt. 151 by Afton. Two vehicles and a tractor trailer were involved in the crash. At this time, the circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
Donovan James Webster, 55 years old from Charlottesville, was arrested at the scene and charged with Driving Under the Influence.

COLLEGE PARK, MD. — As the upcoming school year approaches, changes are being made to the median located at the 7300 block of Baltimore Avenue in College Park. Students will be moving back to campus on August 22, 2014.
A median fence is being built in order to encourage pedestrians to utilize the designated crosswalks.
Perhaps a pedestrian bridge should be built, but then, perhaps a fence would have to be built along the edge of the bridge to keep drunken students from tossing beer bottled down onto traffic.
In the early evening hours of August 9, 2014, Ocean City police, with assistance from ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), shut down eight henna tattoo stands operating on the boardwalk.
Through investigation, it was determined that individuals operating the henna tattoo stands were in the country on active F-1 student visas.
REHOBOTH DEL. — Rehoboth Beach police made a quick arrest after an intoxicated female driver did not initially stop for officers on Rehoboth Avenue.
Police had received a tip that the driver of a blue Dodge Neon could be intoxicated and had left the scene of two fender-benders on Second Street and was headed for the Sandcastle Hotel around 3:14 p.m. Tuesday.
In less than a minute of receiving the report, Rehoboth Beach police were behind her car. She headed through the intersection at Second Street and turned east on Rehoboth Avenue.
This summer, the Blue Crabs have been not only scarce. They are terribly expensive as well. It would upset my stomach to pay sixty dollars a dozen to eat crabs. Who would pay five bucks for a crab?
Usually, while fishing baited bottom rigs, we pick up about a half dozen crabs that fall off at the surface. This summer, the crab net is positioned close by in the boat to dip those big Jimmies. Would you let a five dollar bill float away?
Also, the most successful summertime anglers are actually archers who are putting hundreds of pounds of fish flesh into their coolers while most of us are sleeping. The sport of bowfishing is quickly growing in Southern Maryland. During the day, Cow-nosed Rays are usually targeted. At night, the more delectable invasive snakehead fish and Blue Catfish are more easily seen in the floodlights.
