Southern Md. Police Beat: Samantha & Wayne Somerville maced victim in a robbery in Millison Plaza, say police; tracked by witness to restroom lair

LEXINGTON PARK, MD. – A shopper leaving a store in Millison Plaza was the victim of an armed robbery on February 20, 2019, at approximately 11:40 a.m.

St. Mary’s Sheriff Tim Cameron reports that a pair of robbers, husband and wife, attacked a woman shopper as she left a store and tried to take her purse. The victim resisted and refused to let the female robber have the purse resulting in the aggressive robber allegedly spraying the victim with mace. At that point, police say that the robbers grabbed the woman’s purse and fled. Police did not report on any injuries the robbery victim might have suffered.

The pair were followed by a witness who pursued the criminals on their path to a nearby restaurant. Police were contacted by the witness and arrived to the location of the robbers, cornering them in the restroom.

Samantha Ann Somerville, 30, reportedly asked the victim a question, and then attempted to take the victim’s purse.  Police say that Wayne Darnell Somerville Jr., 31, of 29535 Hills Drive, Mechanicsville, Md., joined in the attack and the pair fled on foot.

Corporals Vincent Pontorno and Timothy Snyder conducted a check of the business, locating Samantha and Wayne Somerville in the restroom.  The deputies search of the restroom revealed clothing discarded in the trash consistent with both the victim and witness’ description of what the suspect was wearing during the robbery, as well as the victim’s wallet hidden in the back of the toilet.

Not to be outdone by his wife, and apparently not trusting her with the newly stolen credit card of the victim, Wayne Somerville took control of their newfound plastic for future thievery and had it stuffed in his jacket, say police.

Mace was located in Samantha Somerville’s backpack and Wayne Somerville was also found to have a can of Mace.  Both suspects were arrested and charged with the following:

  • Armed Robbery
  • Robbery
  • Assault Second Degree
  • Theft
  • Malicious Destruction of Property

Samantha and Wayne Somerville were held without bond at the St. Mary’s County Jail n Leonardtown, Md. Both have been deemed eligible for free attorneys provided by the taxpayers, a courtesy for criminals engineered by the liberal legislators of the free-wheeling Maryland General Assembly.

Wayne Somerville was already set for a hearing in St. Mary’s District Court on March 29, 2019, on charges of trespassing, malicious destruction of property and theft.  Felony theft charges filed by Deputy Edward Vogt from an event on Dec. 13, 2018, are pending in District Court on March 22, 2019.

An arrest on Dec. 10, 2018, by Charles County Sheriff Officer A. Bringley for damaging and tampering with a vehicle has a court hearing in La Plata set for March 13, 2019 for Wayne Somerville. . Additional charges are pending in Charles County Circuit Court for Wayne Somerville.

Could Samantha Somerville allegedly participated in the robbery of the woman shopping in Lexington Park in order to pay her child support or simply to pay for her time in a nail salon?

The Department of Social Services has filed for child support from Samantha Ann Somerville and Gary Ignatius Branson. Samantha Somerville displays numerous photos of her and her child on her Facebook page but other than posting photos of her child fails to provide support.  A couple who reside in Avenue, Md., filed on Jan. 17, 2019 for custody of a child with Samantha Somerville and Gary Branson, a resident of the St. Mary’s Jail, named as defendants. Gary Ignatius Branson entered a guilty plea to felony second-degree rape on Sept. 24, 2007 and was sentenced to six years in prison. On July 28, 2016 he was found guilty of failing to register as a sex offender.

Theft charges against Samantha Somerville brought by Charles County Sheriff Officer Corey Caywood resulted in a plea deal in Charles County District Court where Charles County States Attorney Anthony Covington put the charges on the Stet Docket on Dec. 11, 2018.

A theft charge placed against Samantha Sommerville during an arrest by Maryland State Trooper Posch on Aug. 19, 2017 resulted in a plea deal on Oct. 31, 2017, with States Attorney Fritz and a free attorney paid for by taxpayers, Rais Jaleel Akbar. THE DEAL: a verdict of Probation Before Judgement and 10 days in jail with 10 days suspended.

Both Samantha and Wayne Somerville have extensive families in St. Mary’s County even though the police reported that the two accused robbers are “homeless”, it may be that their families are simply worn out by their noxious activities and refuse to provide them access to their homes any longer.

Aggressive criminals and panhandlers, along with armed robbers like Anthony Barnes who allegedly held up the Donut Connection in the same shopping center a week earlier, as this new armed robbery, plague businesses in Lexington Park in spite of a designated squad of COPS deployed for the last several years by Sheriff Cameron.

The owner of the Millison Plaza and other commercial properties issue no trespass notices to local panhandlers and petty thieves who comprise a large percentage of the career homeless and criminal bums in Lexington Park.

Police respond to calls for the bums urinating in public, using drugs and discarding needles on sidewalks, committing purse snatchings and theft from vehicles, and cart them off to jail. There, District Court commissioners release them on their own recognizance. They walk out to the nearby bus stop and get a free bus ride back to Lexington Park to renew their daily cycle. The homeless shelter has rules that prohibit drugs and alcohol which are spurned by the bums who set up camps in various locations around Lexington Park.  The shelter herds the overnight residents back onto the street in the daytime, leaving them to set upon the unsuspecting patrons of businesses as easy targets. The taxpayers provide for the bus, the police, the prosecutors, the judges, the welfare, the drug treatment, the public defenders, the jail, the homeless shelter and food stamps. The criminal class pays for nothing. What they steal from their families and strangers is used to mainly pay for their drugs and alcohol until they overdose and die.
