Three-way circular firing squad defines GOP primary in District 29A

LEONARDTOWN, MD. — Who would have thought that it makes good sense in a GOP primary to have Good Old Boy Democrat Del. Johnny Wood make an endorsement of one of the three Republicans competing for their party’s nomination? Or that the same candidate would also trot out former Commissioner Dan Raley, also a Democrat, to endorse him, even after Raley got trounced by Treasurer Jan Norris four years earlier? Raley’s decision to attempt to uproot the popular Norris in a power grab upset women all over St. Mary’s County and Raley left town on election night with his tail between his legs.

Would a KKK-Mama lie to a Federal Grand Jury? Was a flaming cross set to scare blacks made of hickory?

“Ms. Morris lied to the grand jury in an attempt to protect herself and to protect a cross burner,” said U.S. Attorney George L. Beck Jr. for the Middle District of Alabama. “When someone testifies in court they swear to tell the truth. Unfortunately, Ms. Morris lied. For our system of justice to protect the rights of all, those who testify before the grand jury must provide accurate and honest information. If someone fails to tell the truth while under oath, we will prosecute them.”

On May 10, 2014, several members of the St Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office were working in an off duty capacity providing security for the Warrior Dash race in Budd’s Creek, Maryland. The annual event is one of the largest and most anticipated events in the region. At 12:24 PM, Deputy William Wood received a report that a race participant had collapsed in a wooded area and was not breathing. Deputy Wood requested help over his radio. Deputy Wood and Deputy Trevor Teague located the 56 year old female on the muddy trail more than 50 yards into a densely wooded area. They immediately assessed the situation, reported her condition, and took over administering CPR from other race participants.
