REHOBOTH, DEL. (Special from the Beach News) — Was it a case of mutiny, a deranged crew member having a psychotic episode or something entirely different that took the lives of two of the ship’s crew and injured a third? We may never know because what happened aboard the Genco Challenger took place in international waters about 27 miles south/southeast of Rehoboth Beach.
One of these storytellers is Robert Thomas. Recently, the 73-year-old Salisbury native came by the recruiting office with his dress blues jacket from when he served many years ago. He was not there to show them off, but he had a favor to ask of the Marines. It was a favor that turned out to be a story 50 years in the making.
Thomas was born and raised in the rural farmlands of Cambridge, Md. While he was a senior in high school, he decided to join the Marines, much to the chagrin of his mother.
“I knew at the time when I graduated I did not want anything to do with college,” said Thomas. “I was not ready for it and would probably have been a disaster if I had gone to college.”
REHOBOTH DEL. — Rehoboth Beach police made a quick arrest after an intoxicated female driver did not initially stop for officers on Rehoboth Avenue.
Police had received a tip that the driver of a blue Dodge Neon could be intoxicated and had left the scene of two fender-benders on Second Street and was headed for the Sandcastle Hotel around 3:14 p.m. Tuesday.
In less than a minute of receiving the report, Rehoboth Beach police were behind her car. She headed through the intersection at Second Street and turned east on Rehoboth Avenue.
The major distinction of this particular boat is the Bimini top framework that is a combination of leaning post, bow rack, and 12 volt lighting and searchlight holder. At my age, reduced level of dexterity, and penchant for fishing alone, this is a personal option that might save me another dunking by falling off the boat. Been there, done that. More than once.

Lighting is provided by the floodlights, a 12 volt searchlight, and an overhead anchor light. And, let’s not forget the Maglite. The outboard motor and trolling motor offer a couple different means to power both to, through, and from those remote creeks back to the security of the public ramps along the rivers.
ELLICOTT CITY, MD. The National Safety Transportation Board has issued a final investigation on the cause of a CSX train derailment. Two people who had climbed a fence to sit on a railroad bridge were killed by spilled coal from the derailed train cars.
On August 20, 2012, about 11:54 p.m. eastern daylight time, an eastbound CSX Transportation (CSXT) coal train, U81318, derailed the first 21 cars at milepost (MP) 12.9 while crossing the railroad bridge over Main Street on the Old Main Line (OML) Subdivision in Ellicott City, Maryland.
Fitzie’s Marina owner Dan FitzGerald reports that thirteen historic Chesapeake Bay Buyboats are visiting Fitzie’s this weekend.
“There were thirteen here last night and tonight and tomorrow we expect to host ten at Fitzie’s,” FitzGerald told THE CHESAPEAKE TODAY.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a boating safety class in an effort to promote safe boating practices.
