Budds Creek game player down for count; saved by tough St. Mary’s cops and PG firefighters who are good in the mud

On May 10, 2014, several members of the St Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office were working in an off duty capacity providing security for the Warrior Dash race in Budd’s Creek, Maryland. The annual event is one of the largest and most anticipated events in the region. At 12:24 PM, Deputy William Wood received a report that a race participant had collapsed in a wooded area and was not breathing. Deputy Wood requested help over his radio. Deputy Wood and Deputy Trevor Teague located the 56 year old female on the muddy trail more than 50 yards into a densely wooded area. They immediately assessed the situation, reported her condition, and took over administering CPR from other race participants.

I am writing this letter because I believe that the 16 year record in office of St. Mary’s County Commissioner Larry Jarboe meets the criteria of the type of citizen and elected official needed. Accordingly, I encourage voters to select Larry Jarboe for election to the Maryland Senate. I have never known him to be unfaithful in his representation of public interests

This year, in an unprecedented and politically audacious move, two Republican County Commissioners flip-flopped and voted with Commissioner President Jack Russell to bring Big Brother into the bathrooms of homes and businesses in Charlotte Hall and New Market. Not only did Todd Morgan and Cindy Jones join Jack Russell

to vote against my motion to exclude the Charlotte Hall/New Market public sewer project from MetCom’s capital plan. Commissioner Cindy Jones made the motion to approve the Capital Budget with the 5.4 million dollar project included. Only Commissioner Danny Morris and I remained true to our long standing commitment to protect quality of life and the interests of the majority of working and retired taxpayers.

All around the Chesapeake – Croakers Busting Loose!

Concentrations of sea grass can be a place where croakers stay and feed. For the most part, they move and feed as a school, but some of the larger croakers may be found in more concentrated groups.

The Wicomico River near Quade’s Store in St. Mary’s County continues to be croaker central for much of the season, but so do other locations such as waters near the Ragged Point Bar on the Virginia side of the Potomac, Cornfield Harbor just inside Point Lookout and the Patuxent River near Benedict and Sandgates.

Maryland Natural Resources Police Mourn Death of K-9 Blu

The Maryland Natural Resources Police mourned the passing last Wednesday of K-9 Blu, assigned to Western Maryland in 2007. The black Labrador retriever was 10 years, three months old and was suffering from lymphoma.

“Blu and his handler, Officer Curt Dieterle, were the epitome of what it takes to be a successful K-9 team,” said Sgt. Lisa Nyland, the unit leader. “They were motivated, competent, professional and accessible to not only NRP but to other agencies and the public as well. Blu’s passing leaves a huge void in our K-9 unit that will be very hard to fill.”

Barrel-chested with a friendly smile that delighted children, Blu was trained for three missions ─ track, search for an item, such as a gun, and detect wildlife ─ tasks the dog performed with gusto.

Keystone Cops: entire shopping center shut down, highway diverted when guy left a bag under McDonald’s soda machine

Leonardtown, Maryland – St. Mary’s Sheriff Tim Cameron reports that on May 28, 2014 at 6:46 AM, a citizen called the Emergency Communications Center (ECC) and reported seeing a male subject place a duffle bag under the soda machines inside the McDonald’s restaurant located on Merchant’s Lane in the Leonardtown Center. The subject then walked out of the McDonald’s and was seen near the trash cans before leaving the shopping center on foot heading south along Point Lookout Road.

On May 25, 2014 at 12:21 pm, deputies responded to the Maryland International Raceway for an accident on the racetrack. Emergency medical personnel arrived and pronounced the driver of the vehicle dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation indicated Lamont Akins-Freeman, age 48, was racing his 1971 Plymouth Duster. Racer
