We believe that there are people, including family members of Dick and Lloyd Welch, who have information that would further this investigation.

Coast Guard rescues ailing captain off Virginia Beach

NRP officers were called to the scene. A search of the vehicle turned up a loaded shotgun with the safety off, shotgun ammunition and a spotlight.

Kurt Andrew Simmons, 29, of Centreville, was charged by NRP with having a loaded firearm in a vehicle, casting rays (jacklighting), hunting deer without a license, hunting out of season, deer hunting at night and hunting while intoxicated. Queen Anne’s County charged him with driving under the influence.

Police say the Toyota went into a sideways slide and crossed the center line into the northbound lane of travel. The Jeep was travelling north and subsequently struck the Toyota in the passenger’s side causing severe intrusion into the passenger’s compartment of the vehicle. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Both operators were transported to St. Mary’s MedStar. The operator of the Toyota Camry was pronounced deceased and the operator of the Jeep was listed in stable condition.

Coast Guard rescues sailboat captain and crew as Navy chopper from Bush assisted

Both helicopter crews arrived on scene at about 8:15 p.m. The Coast Guard helicopter crew hoisted the people and transported them to Air Station Elizabeth City in good condition. No injuries were reported.

Rescued were vessel owner Frank W. Rawley, 55, Douglas Rider, 58, Lorette Medwel, 55, and a 14-year-old male. The survivors were sailing from Beaufort to Pensacola.
