Dover Police Beat: Suicide by cop perp booby-trapped his lair before calling 911

The incident began at 10:38PM, when dispatchers from the Dover Police Department received a call from a Crisis Center indicating that James Long, was having suicidal thoughts and had vocalized a plan to commit “suicide by cop.” Long has been the subject of previous incidents with the Dover Police Department, including one occasion where similar threats were made.

Millsboro, Del.- The Delaware State Police report that the Crash Reconstruction Unit has positively identified the man that was killed in the two vehicle crash that occurred on Dec. 16, 2014 on SR 24 in Millsboro as Andrew S. Thompson, 20, of Lewes, DE.

Prince Georges EMS spokesman Mark Brady reports that an ambulance crew was assaulted, their unit stolen and minutes later involved in a multi-vehicle crash involving a fatality. At about 5:30 pm, Sunday, December 14, Ambulance 811B was returning to their station after completing a patient transport.

As they were travelling southbound on the Capitol Beltway (Route 495) they witnessed a passenger car leave the roadway near the interchange of I-95. The ambulance pulled to the shoulder with the crew of two firefighter/EMT’s exiting to check on the welfare of the occupant.

A series of events occurred quickly with both crew-members being assaulted by the driver of the very car they stopped to help. The suspect proceeded to drive away in their ambulance. The volunteer firefighter/EMTs were visibly shaken but not injured

Kitchen stove caught kid’s shirt on fire; burned over thirty percent of her body

The investigation revealed that the victim was standing near a kitchen stove that was being used at the time. Her shirt came into contact with the hot stove and ignited. The resulting fire caused second and third degree burns to 30% of her body and was concentrated on her back. There was no other fire damage to the home upon investigation.

Joyride into Tree Kills One, Sends 5 to Trauma Unit; four of the six occupants have DUI records in Maryland

MOUNT AIRY, MD. — Four men who were in a pickup truck that left the roadway Friday night in Howard County and overturned after striking a tree have been convicted of DUI in Maryland, including one who was killed in the crash.

The survivors include one of whom has two prior DUI convictions and may have been the driver, are now in a trauma unit.

Howard County police report that they are investigating the single-vehicle collision that occurred on Shaffersville Road in Mount Airy on Dec. 12, 2014 just before midnight.
