The investigation determined that a silver, four door Mercedes sedan was traveling northbound on Shore Acres Road when it left the roadway, struck and severed a utility pole and ultimately overturned. The driver was taken by helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with life threatening injuries. The preliminary cause of the collision appears to be the driver’s failure to remain in a single lane likely due to excessive speed. The Traffic Safety section will be handling the investigation.
