OCEAN CITY POLICE BEAT / Out for fun at the beach with .45 and 200 rounds of ammo to protect distribution of drugs

OCEAN CITY, MD – Two people have been charged with gun and drug charges as a result of an investigation begun by a suspicious vehicle along the main drag of the popular beach resort.
The Ocean City Police Department, with assistance from the Worcester County Criminal Enforcement Team, report that they arrested two individuals and seized a handgun during an undercover drug enforcement operation.
During a search of the vehicle, detectives located a small amount of marijuana, a .45 caliber handgun, and over 200 live rounds of ammunition.
On June 6, 2017, detectives conducting drug enforcement in an undercover capacity approached a suspicious vehicle at approximately 9:25 p.m. in the area of 27th Street and Coastal Highway. After an investigation, detectives arrested two occupants of the vehicle: Joseph B. Phelan, 19, of 34989 Lighthouse Road, Selbyville, DE, and Whitney A. Krick, 28, of Millsboro, DE. During a search of the vehicle, detectives located a small amount of marijuana, a .45 caliber handgun, and over 200 live rounds of ammunition.
Detectives have charged Phelan with multiple firearm possession charges and possession of marijuana. Phelan was also charged with distribution of drugs, dealing drugs with a firearm, and knowingly altering the serial numbers of a gun. Phelan was held on a $50,000 bond after appearing at a hearing and as of June 8, 2017, the court records reflect that Phelan is beached in the Hotel Worcester and missing sunny days at the boardwalk.
Krick has been charged with possession of marijuana. Both are currently being held at the Ocean City Public Safety Building awaiting an initial appearance before a Maryland District Court Commissioner.
