GRASONVILLE, MD. — Two men were charged on Sept. 12, 2015 by a Maryland Natural Resources Police officer with poaching 35 striped bass while fishing from a boat off Kent Narrows.
WESTERNPORT, MD. (Oct. 2, 2015) — The Maryland Natural Resources Police report that the mountain boys are restless and stirring on the roads, fields and streams of Western Maryland.
The officer stopped the man and asked to inspect the cooler, which contained 42 striped bass ranging in length from 10 to 16 inches.
Many of those charged as outlaw watermen merely pursue poaching as a sideline to other business pursuits such as drug dealing and burglary.
Last year, officers wrote 281 citations for oyster violations ranging from possessing undersized oysters to poaching oysters in protected sanctuaries.
Witnesses told detectives that they heard the officer repeatedly giving the suspect commands to “stop,” and that they heard the suspect shouting profanities at the officer.
The Dover Police Department responded to 16 shoplifting calls between Noon on September 3rd and Noon on September 10th. Of those 16 shoplifting complaints, six are still under investigation, two were unfounded, and 9 arrests/warrants obtained were made in 8 cases. One juvenile and 8 adult arrests were made.
