At this time, there are two confirmed fatalities. The remains of those individuals have been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond for positive identification. Search and Recovery Team divers with Virginia State Police, VMRC and the US Coast Guard are checking one submerged boat and another partially-submerged boat to ensure no one was onboard either of those boats at the time of the fire.
The existing, narrow two-lane roadway is problematic for tourists unfamiliar with the road and regular visitors who drive recreational vehicles and tow boat trailers. In addition to people driving 8 ½-foot-wide recreational vehicles trying to navigate 10-foot lanes, drivers are challenged by the absence of shoulders and very soft ground and deep ditches on the roadside.

Cops to indicted drug dealer: Is that a pipe bomb in your closet?
CUMBERLAND, MD. (January 8, 2016) – Maryland Deputy State Fire Marshals have arrested a 35-year-old male after an investigation involving a “pipe bomb” accidentally found inside a residence.
The fire burned for more than 90 minutes and totally gutted the house. What did not burn off from the roof and 1st and 2nd floors collapsed into the basement. Fortunately, there were no civilian or firefighter injuries. A preliminary fire loss is estimated at $1.5 million.
