DC Police Seeks Assistance in Fatal Hit & Run Crash Investigation: 3500 Block of Minnesota Avenue, Southeast

Friday, January 1, 2016 – (Washington, DC) – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a traffic fatality which occurred in the 3500 block of Minnesota Avenue, Southeast, on Friday, January 1, 2016 between the hours of midnight and 4:10 am.

At approximately 4:10 am, the body of an adult male was located lying along the side of the roadway at the intersection of Minnesota Avenue and C Street, Southeast.  No sign of life was found, and the victim was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent has been identified as 36-year-old Ian Jerome Butts, of Northeast, DC.

Preliminary investigation indicates the decedent was struck while crossing Minnesota Avenue at the intersection while in the crosswalk by an unidentified vehicle that was traveling southwest bound on Minnesota Avenue.  The vehicle then fled the scene.  It is believed the suspect’s vehicle may be a blue or black Chevrolet Equinox possibly with a model year between 2005 and 2007.  The vehicle will have damage to the front end and windshield.

Investigation into the crash is ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Arrest Made in 2015 Homicide: 2400 Block of Elvans Road, SE

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced an arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of Deontray Ingram of Southeast, DC, which occurred in the 2400 block of Elvans Road, SE, on Saturday September 19, 2015, at approximately 4:04 am.

On Friday, January 1, 2016, members of the First District arrested 24-year-old Nathaniel Beasley, who in 2010 lived at 4816 Alabama Ave. S.E. Washington, D.C., pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant charging him with Second Degree Murder while Armed. On April 29, 2010, Beasley was charged with assault in P G County and on June 1, 2010 the charges were dropped by the Prince Georges County States Attorney.

On June 25, 2014, a warrant was issued in Anne Arundel County, Md., for Beasley for five counts of various drug charges due to an investigation by the Anne Arundel County Police.
