SEVERN, MD. — Anne Arundel Police report that the Christmas Drinking, Driving and Dying Season took another uptick with a possibly intoxicated pedestrian from a homeless shelter being run over by a possible DUI driver after the walking boozer had already been hit by another driver who had stopped.  The suspected DUI driver didn’t stop but was tracked down by the cops.

Police say that on December 13th, 2015 at approximately 1:45 am officers responded to a pedestrian struck on Telegraph Rd (MD-170) near Paul Dr. in Severn.

A witness reported that he swerved to avoid a pedestrian in the roadway and stopped to check on him.  Before he could, a gray Ford Fusion also southbound on Telegraph Road struck and rode over the pedestrian, that driver did not stop and continued southbound on Telegraph Road.

DWI Hit Parade dating serviceThrough vehicle debris left at the scene, a suspect vehicle was identified, and officers responded to the owner’s address, locating the vehicle, driver, and passenger.  The driver & passenger were taken to Eastern District for questioning, and the vehicle was towed for evidence processing.

The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene and taken to the Medical Examiner’s office in Baltimore for an autopsy.  The driver and passenger in the Ford were not injured.

The preliminary cause of the crash appears to be the pedestrian’s unlawful presence in the roadway.  A contributing circumstance was his all black clothing on an unlit portion of the roadway.  Speed was not a factor, but there was evidence of alcohol use by the driver and possibly the pedestrian.

Traffic Safety is handling the investigation.  Any charges are pending review by the Anne Arundel County States Attorney.

The pedestrian killed, Kason Donato, was a resident of a nearby homeless shelter operated by Anne Arundel County, the House of Hope.
