St. Mary’s Sheriff Tim Cameron might well be reminded that when lives are saved by the removal of DUI drivers from the roadways, the public doesn’t care if the uniforms of those arresting DUI drivers are brown or blue — or even the new police fad of all-black military uniforms

TOWSON, MD. — Maryland loves drugs and just because some of the residents are in the slammer, why should they be kept from getting their fix? That may have been what was on the mind of Melvin Hodges, as police say he went about making some side money dealing drugs into the joint while picking up a paycheck as a jail guard.

Maryland State Police charge Jamor T. Burks with dealing heroin as drug king-pin

Investigators, along with agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Bel Air Office, were able to identify members of Burks’ drug trafficking organization. After his arrest, multiple search and seizure warrants were executed at locations in the Willow Brook Community where Burk was known to reside. Throughout the investigation, approximately 4,000 single serving bags of heroin were recovered, with a street value of $12,000. An additional small amount of crack cocaine, along with a loaded .40 caliber gun and over $13,045 in drug proceeds were seized.

Metro Police Beat: Man wandering in subway tunnel escaping electrocution due to rail being turned off but shot by officer

◾Shortly before 9:10 p.m., a responding MTPD officer encountered a male subject in the westbound tunnel approximately 400 feet east of Potomac Avenue Station.
◾During that encounter, the MTPD officer discharged her department-issued service weapon, resulting in fatal injuries to the male subject.
◾There were no injuries to MTPD officers

Forty of the 44 defendants charged in the racketeering conspiracy have been convicted, including 24 correctional officers. Thirty-five defendants pleaded guilty; five defendants were convicted after trial. Three defendants were acquitted and one defendant died.

Eastern Shore Police Beat: Terry Garnett’s decision to drive over deputy ended with a bullet

At some point during the incident, the vehicle then turned around and accelerated towards the sheriff’s deputy. Fearing for his life, the deputy pulled his department-issued .40 caliber Glock pistol and shot multiple times at the vehicle. The Mercury continued into the backyard of a residence on Augustine Herman Highway where it struck a tree.

Fairfax Police Beat: spotlighting of police helicopter incident will result in beamer being jailed, say cops

FAIRFAX, VA., Fairfax County Police report that they are investigating an incident involving spotlighting the agency’s helicopter, creating dangerous visibility issues for the pilot and crew.

While returning to the helicopter base on Tuesday, February 24 around 8 p.m., the pilot observed a bright light illuminating Fairfax One.
