Southern Maryland Police Beat: Guns and shots of firewater led to gunfire

LUSBY, MD. — Devon should likely go on the wagon, if his actions over the weekend are any example of what the rest of his life is all about.

On August 9 at 11:46 p.m. Dep. N. Gilmore responded to the Southern Community Center in Lusby for a reported fight in the parking lot.

Upon arrival Dep. Gilmore did not observe anyone fighting. As she patrolled the parking lot she saw a vehicle parked with the engine still running, occupied by two males. She saw a beer bottle near the rear tire on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

She approached the vehicle and noticed another can of beer by the driver’s legs and detected a strong odor of alcohol.

Murder USA: Devin James Wooten charged with murder of Tamu Bynum

SUITLAND, MD. — The Prince George’s County Police Department arrested a suspect in a domestic-related murder in Suitland. The suspect is 43-year-old Devin James Wooten of the 2300 block of Pitts Place in Southeast Washington. The victim is 43-year-old Tamu Bynum of Sycamore Lane in Suitland.

On August 10, 2014, at about 7:00 pm, patrol officers were called to the 3200 block of Sycamore Lane for the report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Bynum inside of her home suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Beach News: DUI driver had two fender-benders and had no desire to dance with Rehoboth Police

REHOBOTH DEL. — Rehoboth Beach police made a quick arrest after an intoxicated female driver did not initially stop for officers on Rehoboth Avenue.

Police had received a tip that the driver of a blue Dodge Neon could be intoxicated and had left the scene of two fender-benders on Second Street and was headed for the Sandcastle Hotel around 3:14 p.m. Tuesday.

In less than a minute of receiving the report, Rehoboth Beach police were behind her car. She headed through the intersection at Second Street and turned east on Rehoboth Avenue.

Police Beat: DUI driver smashed into signs of Ocean Downs and Ocean Pines as he chose new direction to jail

DUI-related Collision: On July 29, 2014, at approximately 0330 hrs, troopers responded to the area of MD Rt. 90 at the exit for MD Rt. 589 regarding a single vehicle collision. Upon the arrival of troopers it was determined Vinicius Freire Carneiro of Ocean City, MD, failed to maintain control of a 2004 Chevrolet truck as he exited onto MD Rt. 589 from westbound MD Rt. 90. The Chevrolet struck the Ocean Pines and the Ocean Downs Casino sign, traveled off the roadway, and into the woodline. Subsequently, the Chevrolet rolled onto its side. Carneiro refused medical treatment, but it was determined through the investigation he exhibited signs of impairment. Carneiro unsatisfactorily performed standardized field sobriety testing and was subsequently arrested. Carneiro was transported to the MSP Berlin Barrack, but he refused to submit to a breath test. He was subsequently charged with the collision event and the DUI.

Police Beat: Trooper charged Peter A. Merski with possession of dope and hallucingens

This Greenhorn was no tenderfoot

PRINCE FREDERICK, MD. — Maryland State Police report that on 8/6/14 at 1:35 pm, Trooper First Class Costello responded to the area of the PNC Bank in Prince Frederick for a reported disorderly subject. Timothy E. Greenhorn, 36 of no fixed address, was located in an extremely intoxicated condition. Greenhorn was belligerent and became aggressive during contact with police. He was arrested and incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center.

Bridgeport Police Officer Charged with Federal Civil Rights Violation

WASHINGTON, D.C. — 08/10/2014 — Deirdre M, Daly, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, and Patricia M. Ferrick, Special Agent in Charge of the New Haven Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, today announced that a federal grand jury sitting in New Haven has returned an indictment charging Bridgeport Police officer CLIVE HIGGINS with violating an individual’s civil rights by using unreasonable force during the course of an arrest.

The indictment was returned yesterday. HIGGINS, 48, is expected to appear today at 2:30 p.m. before U.S. Magistrate Judge Joan G. Margolis in New Haven.

Anne Arundel Police note that alert officers nabbed a gang of teen burglars and leading them was allegedly a bozo who can’t use juvenile laws to save his hide. Shane Michael McGovern was captured along with his teeny-bopper brigade of future criminals of America.

On August 6, 2014, at approximately 10:25 p.m., officers from the Northern District responded for an alarm at Rose’s store located in the 5100 block of Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn Park.
