Big Bucks Billfish! Join the White Marlin Open

There is still time to register this weekend for the world’s largest billfish tournament which will be held from August 4 till August 8 in Ocean City. Boats from Key Largo all the way north to New Jersey will depart from the Harbour Island Marina for a work week of fishing that will culminate with an awards ceremony at the Clarion Hotel on August 9.

Do not expect such major money from just registering with the minimum thousand dollar entry fee. Captains and crews who put additional wagers in multiple calcuttas earn the really big bucks if they can put the biggest White Marlin, Blue Marlin, tuna, dolphin, Wahoo or shark on the dock.

Murder at Dundalk: Witnesses saw him bag her and slab her!

Clyde C. Campbell, 53, of the 1700 block of Manor Road, 21222, was charged Wednesday evening and is held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center. (Campbell had been arrested Monday morning in Dundalk on weapons charges unrelated to the Grubb case and has been held at BCDC since then.)

Grubb was reported missing to BCoPD by her daughter Saturday evening; she was last seen Thursday evening. The daughter said she was concerned because of a history of domestic violence between her mother and Campbell

CAMBRIDGE, MD. — In spite of all the great destinations along the Delmarva shore, some folks decide that poking around Pocomoke City, taking an island cruise from either Point Lookout or Crisfield to Tangier and Smith Islands or fishing from a pier jutting out over the Choptank is for them.

One such fellow is Tony Averella, of Baltimore. Tony had been working his assortment of crab traps from his post along the two-mile long fishing pier at the Choptank River on July 21st until deciding to pack up about noon following a close encounter with a turtle.

Truck driver saved a truck-load of books from burning on I-95

Fire engines from the AFC responded in the southbound direction. Upon arrival, Firefighters found a tractor and trailer with fire in the rear of the tractor. Fortunately, the tractor-trailer driver was able to disconnect the trailer and pull the tractor away before the fire extended to the trailer, which was carrying books.

The fire on the tractor was extinguished. There was minor damage to the interior of the trailer. Firefighters initially used a thermal imaging camera to look for heat without damaging the trailer. The camera detected high heat present so the inside of the trailer was opened and checked for hidden fire. The fire appeared to have started near the braking area of the tractor. No injuries were reported. Several lanes of northbound I-95 were blocked until the tractor and trailer were removed from the scene.

Brazen thief broke into police car and stole tactical vest and flight suit — when will they go up on eBay?

(BEL AIR, MD) – Maryland State Police are searching for a police tactical vest and related equipment stolen over the weekend in Harford County when the window of a police vehicle was smashed and the items removed.

The theft is believed to have occurred sometime in the early morning hours of July 25, 2014, in the driveway of a Maryland state trooper’s residence in the Bel Air area of Harford County. The rear window of an unmarked Ford Excursion was smashed. An unknown suspect or suspects removed a green ballistic vest on which was labeled “Trooper” and “STATE Team,” and which contained several police tactical equipment including ammunition, a pry bar and a knife. “STATE Team” designates the Maryland State Police Special Tactical Assault Team Element, or SWAT team.

Boogie Board Blues: EMS and lifeguards shuttle beach-goers to hospitals

A 43-year-old man who was riding a wave on a boogie board struck his head on the sand and later complained of neck and hand pain around 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Cullen Street. One witness said he was found face down in the surf but EMS personnel said he never lost consciousness. He was loaded onto a backboard, placed on a stretcher, below, and taken by ambulance to Beebe Hospital

Aaron Slemker killed in Budds Creek drag strip crash

Budd’s Creek, Maryland – on July 22, 2014 at 12:45 PM, deputies responded to the Maryland International Raceway for an accident involving a motorcyclist.

Preliminary investigation revealed the operator of a racing motorcycle, identified as 21 year old Aaron Slemkez, was participating in a training session on an access road behind the drag-strip when he lost control and struck a cement barrier.
