Omara gets light sentence for killing two in fiery DUI crash

CENTREVILLE, MD. — Kaitlin Ashley Omara was sentenced on Jan. 13, 2015 to three years in jail for killing a motorcyclist and his passenger while she drove under the influence in a blazing crash in 2013.

Queen Anne County States Attorney Lance Richardson reported that on September 17, 2014 Kaitlin Ashley Omara of 439 Barnes Ave., Westminster, Maryland entered a plea of guilty to two counts of Negligent Homicide while under the influence of alcohol.

Spotsylvania Police Beat: Cops bet Subway bandit is good for slew of robberies across Virginia – Cosner’s Corner, Va. – Spotsylvania Sheriff Roger L. Harris reports that detectives have arrested a man for robbery who may be a suspect in many more robberies of stores across Virginia.

On December 13th patrol deputies responded to the Subway at Cosner’s Corner for a report of a robbery in progress where two armed subjects entered the business demanding money. The robbers fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money prior to the arrival of law enforcement.

All three Colombian nationals were arrested on May 18, 2014, when the self-propelled, semi-submersible vessel in which they were traveling was interdicted and searched by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). During the search of the vessel, members of the USCG team found and seized 2,838 kilograms of cocaine.

Police say that the vehicle was noted for a speed violation in the area of S/B US Rt. 13 north of the Maryland/Virginia line. During the course of the stop, Troopers conducted a K-9 free air sniff of the vehicle utilizing a State Police canine. The scan resulted in a positive alert for the presence of a controlled dangerous substance. Search of the vehicle produced a suit case in the trunk of the vehicle. Inside of the suitcase was a shoe box containing a significant quantity of cocaine.

People who volunteer improve the lives of others in obvious ways. Recipients of community service efforts gain something tangible: a hot meal, a home improvement, funding or staffing where resources are lacking or nonexistent. Homeless veterans, single-parent families, environmental organizations and non-profit groups succeed when volunteers work for their benefit.

Coast Guard women and men, whether active duty or civilian employees, make a living serving the public – it’s their job. A life dedicated to service, many members of the Coast Guard family often extend their efforts beyond the workday, giving selflessly to help others.

Coast Guard volunteers in Virginia’s Hampton Roads area seize opportunities to give of themselves, resulting not only in gains for folks on the receiving end, but in forming stronger relationships among Coast Guard and community members.
