The Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack reports the following DUI arrests for November 13 – November 25, 2014
Further investigation indicates several suspects, described as African American males, may have been involved. A police K-9 search of the area tracked away from the residence to the east between Morris and Central avenues. The track was lost near a convenience store at the intersection of Central and South Main streets. During the track, police found a mask fitting the description of one worn by a suspect. A gun has not been recovered.
The victim’s body was transported to the medical examiner’s office in Wilmington, Delaware. An autopsy is expected to be conducted tomorrow.
The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) was involved in this case. Detectives learned the males drove to a scrap yard where they scrapped the stolen items. One of the main suspects was identified as Shaun David Smith through the investigation. Another male present with Shaun was his father, Dennis Andrew Smith. The third male was not able to be identified at that time. Arrest warrants were obtained for Shaun and Dennis Smith. On November 11, 2014, Shaun and Dennis Smith were taken into custody at Mid-Shore Scrap while trying to scrap more stolen items.

For Maryland Lawmakers, Campaign Funding Loosely Tied to Committee Membership
Many of Maryland’s representatives in the U.S. House and Senate get a significant portion of their campaign funding from industries affected by the committees on which they sit. For example, nearly a quarter of Sen. Ben Cardin’s contributions came from the financial sector, which is affected by legislation overseen by the Finance Committee on which Cardin sits.
Only the donations in 2013 and 2014 from the top five sectors for each U.S. House member are shown. Donations from 2009 to 2014 are shown for both senators. The percentages were calculated from all donations where the donor’s industry is known — about 90 percent of contributions for each lawmaker. The “other” category includes retirees, educators and government employees. Source: Open Secrets.

PRINCE FREDERICK — When staying in a cheap motel, pot-heads might want to consider that the inexpensive construction of the building will allow the aroma of their high-dollar weed to weep out into the hallway. But then, they are likely devoid of all good judgment anyway. Maryland State Police report that on 11/18/14 at 5:37 pm, Trooper First Class Casarella responded to the Super 8 Motel in Prince Frederick for a possible CDS activity complaint. The odor of burnt marijuana was emitting in the hallway on the first floor. It was strongest outside Room 120. The occupants, Bentley M. Hutchison, 22 of Front Royal, VA, and Robert F. March, 40 of Manassas, VA, were issued Civil Citations for Possession of Marijuana Less than 10 grams.

Recipients of community service efforts gain something tangible: a hot meal, a home improvement, funding or staffing where resources are lacking or nonexistent. Homeless veterans, single-parent families, environmental organizations and non-profit groups succeed when volunteers work for their benefit.
