<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">CHESTER, MD. — A screaming car traveling at what police say was a high rate of speed on Dominion Road in Chester, left its lane and crossed the highway, crashing into a parked Maryland State Police cruiser and killing the driver. The driver, a tree service operator for Lee&#8217;s Tree Service and a part-time waterman, had a long record of traffic violations, driving without a commercial driver’s license, driving while suspended and DWI.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Maryland State Police identified the driver as Jeffrey Travis Butler Jr., 31, of 1150 Little Creek Road, Chester, Md. Butler also had another address listed in court records as 5116 Clark Canning House Road, in Federalsburg when cited by State Police for various violations.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">The crash took place as Maryland State Police were assisting Queen Anne’s Deputies with a domestic call at that location.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">The police vehicle was identified as a Ford Explorer that had emergency lights activated in the rear and was parked on the northbound shoulder of Dominion Road, in Chester, when it was hit head-on by the then wrong-way Honda driven by Butler.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Butler died at Queen Anne’s Emergency Center just before 10 pm on Nov. 23, 2017.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Butler had been cited for traffic violations on Aug. 21, 2017, in Talbot County District Court following a traffic stop on Rt. 50 eastbound at Rt. 662 by Maryland Trooper P. Nickerson. Butler failed to appear in court on Oct. 23, 2017, and his license was suspended.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Butler entered a guilty plea to operating a tree truck when he was not legally qualified to do so, without a commercial driver’s license, in Queen Anne’s County District Court on July 10, 2017, by Maryland Trooper Brandon Wilson. Butler was fined $275 and given 18 months’ probation.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Butler was charged with DWI on Feb. 13, 2010, by Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Deputy M. Pinkosz as he operated a Dodge on Main Street in Grasonville, Md. In Queen Anne’s District Court on June 9, 2010, Butler struck a plea deal with the Queen Anne’s States Attorney. THE DEAL: In return for a guilty plea to DWI, Butler was sentenced to 40 days in jail.</span></p>
