Geezer says foot “slipped” on gas; slammed into Rehab center,
Millville, DE – Troopers are investigating a crash in which the operator drove his vehicle into a building.
The incident occurred around 2:50 p.m. today, Wednesday, December 2, 2015, as George M. Hannisick, 75, of Ocean View, was operating a 2013 Ford Edge in the parking lot of Beebe Healthcare Rehab Services located at 32550 Docs Place Extended. Hannisick’s foot allegedly slipped off the brake as he was beginning to park and stepped on the gas pedal, accelerating the vehicle into the building and stopping just inside.
George Hannisick was uninjured in the collision but was transported by EMS to Beebe Healthcare in Lewes for observation. He was cited for Inattentive Driving.
The Sussex County Technical Rescue Team responded to the incident to secure the building and inspect the structural integrity.
State Police report that no persons inside the building were injured in the crash and the building was evacuated.
