<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">MADDOX, MD. &#8212; Now it’s on video tape and soon the video will be produced in St. Mary’s District Court after St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Connelly took a look at the squirrelly driving of Nicholas Taylor Cave of 26615 Tin Top School Road in Country Lakes.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Nicholas Cave has a record of making fools out of prosecutors in both Charles and St. Mary’s County as he has successfully dodged serious traffic charges including DUI on two occasions.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Cave was charged with failure to drive on the right side of the highway along Maryland Rt. 238 near Mill Point Road in Maddox, Md., on Aug. 19, 2015 at 3:31 pm.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Operating a 2005 Ford pickup, Cave attracted the attention of several motorists, who equipped with cell phones, loaded up the 911 call center with reports that a maniac was loose on the highway.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Another charge for this alleged bozo was one for reckless driving with wanton disregard for the safety of others or property. A third charge of negligent driving also was leveled against Cave who might think twice about driving his Batmobile in the same manner again.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Cave was last in the District Court when he was charged with seven counts of burglary, drugs and theft in a statement of charges issued on Dec. 15, 2013. Represented by a public defender, who actually does not defend the public but instead defends welfare criminals charged with crimes and the public pays for the legal defense. It is up to the States Attorney to represent the interests of the public.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">In this case the States Attorney, Richard Fritz, and the public defender cooked up a plea deal on Jan. 17, 2014, just a few weeks after the charges were filed. In that deal, Cave pleaded guilty to the crimes of theft while the drug and burglary charges were dropped. Cave was sentenced to the slammer for one year with credit given for time served of 82 days and 283 days were suspended, which shows that in this case Cave was out of the jail in no time at all and the States Attorney’s deal did little to serve the public. Cave had been charged with breaking into a roommate’s room and stealing prescription drugs, which were later found to be in his possession.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Perhaps the Cave-man’s driving escapade in Maddox was the result of pill-popping.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Cave was charged with assault and malicious property destruction by Maryland State Trooper Baker on Nov. 9, 2013. In another plea deal on March 6, 2014 with St. Mary’s States Attorney Richard Fritz, the charges were put on the Stet Docket with no fine and no time. The welfare attorneys, Richard H. Sothoron and Sarah Elkins represented Cave.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Drug charges placed against Cave on May 14, 2012 by St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Deputy Shaun C. Carberry resulted in a trial on Oct. 25, 2012 when he entered a guilty plea in yet another plea deal, was sentenced to 365 days in jail, was given credit for time served of 45 days and 320 days were suspended. A fine of $500 was agreed to and the entire $500 fine was suspended, due to the fine work of the public defender Eric Sullivan who worked for Cave.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Cave must have something on the States Attorney or is related to the Queen of England. On May 15, 2012, Cave was arrested for driving while suspended, possession of a suspended driver’s permit and two counts of DUI. All charges except the charge for possessing the suspended permit were dropped by States Attorney Fritz on Oct. 25, 2012. A plea deal for the possession of suspended license resulted in a jail sentence of 60 days which was immediately suspended.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Perhaps Cave has an obsession of making fools of prosecutors in Maryland – or perhaps the elected prosecutors in many Maryland counties are simply just that – fools. In Charles County on Jan. 12, 2011 a citizen citation was filed against Cave for DUI. In District Court in Charles County, Md., on July 22, 2011, Cave was given probation before judgement in a deal approved by Charles County States Attorney Anthony Covington. The deal: Cave was given 60 days in jail and ….the drum roll…. ALL SIXTY DAYS were suspended with no fine.</span></p>
