So. Md. Police Beat: Boozing pedestian took fatal walk into traffic

Southern Maryland Police BeatLeonardtown, Maryland – St. Mary’s Sheriff Tim Cameron reports that on November 15, 2014 at 5:24 PM,  deputies responded to Point Lookout Road and Maypole Road for a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. 

Initial investigation revealed, Brian Todd Cooper, age 51, of Mechanicsville, was illegally in the roadway while crossing the northbound lanes of Point Lookout Road. Cooper entered the path of a 2014 Ford Taurus, operated by Richard L. Buckler, 69, of Leonardtown, and was struck by the vehicle. Cooper suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. 
St. Mary’s County Collision Reconstruction Team members responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. At this time, alcohol appears to have been a factor on the part of the pedestrian. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision and have not yet provided a statement are asked to contact Deputy John Davis at 301.475.4200 X 1988
