Cops nab suspect who broke into motel room and robbed patron at knife-point

ODENTON, MD. — A patron of a motel near Fort Meade was robbed by a suspect who was later caught by Anne Arundel County Police.  Police say that on June 19, 2015, at approximately 7:08 p.m., officers from the Western District responded to the Royal Inn located in the 1600 block of Annapolis Road in Odenton for an armed robbery of a citizen.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the 65-year-old male victim who reported than an unknown male suspect threw a rock through the window of his hotel room, shattering the glass, and then climbed through the broken window, demanding money from the victim. When the victim hesitated, the suspect pulled out a knife and held it to threaten the victim. The victim then turned over an undisclosed amount of money to the suspect, who fled towards the front of the hotel property on Annapolis Road. The victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the robbery.

Officers began checking the neighborhood surrounding the hotel. At approximately 7:30 p.m., Corporal Dennis Stackewicz located an individual matching the description of the suspect in a wooded area near Richfield Drive in Severn. The victim and several witnesses identified this individual as the suspect in the robbery. A subsequent search revealed two knives and an undisclosed amount of U.S. Currency. The suspect, Robert A. Jones, 52, was placed under arrest and transported to Eastern District where he was charged with the following charges:  Armed Robbery, Robbery, 1st and 2nd Degree Assault, 1st and 3rd Degree Burglary, Reckless Endangerment and Destruction of Property.

“I will never stay here again. My children got severely bit up by bed bugs and there were roaches also. The owner was rude and used profanity when speaking to me. When my husband went to speak with him his persona was completely different. Just overall a horrible experience there’s too many different hotels to stay at to stay at a slum hotel ran by slum lords.”

“I did a Work and Travel program, a kind of exchange program… My travel company recommended this place… I went there and it was a dirty place, people that I met at Hanover said that cops go many times there, that it’s a dangerous place… the owner is very unfriendly ( I think a bad word would be better to describe him).. And it’s not cheap for the place.”

Stayed December 2008, traveled as a couple
