SALISBURY, MD. – 05/13/2015 —-Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis reports that on May 9, 2015 at 2:26 AM a deputy stopped a vehicle operated by Kevin Murray after observing Murray driving erratically on South Salisbury Boulevard.
At one point the deputy observed that Murray was driving down the middle of the road, straddling both southbound lanes.
Upon stopping Murray, the deputy detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Murray. That along with other observations prompted the deputy to attempt to administer sobriety testing which Murray refused to do. Murray stated that had not consumed any alcohol.
The deputy also discovered that Murray was required to have an ignition interlock in any vehicle he operated due to a previous alcohol related driving offense. The vehicle Murray operated was not equipped with such a device.
The deputy placed Murray under arrest and transported him to the central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Murray in the Detention Center in lieu of $5,000.00 bond.

On 11 May 2015 at 1:45 PM a deputy responded to a reported single vehicle collision in the intersection of Glen Avenue and Memorial Plaza in Salisbury. Upon arrival, it appeared as if the vehicle failed to stop for a stop sign and drove through the intersection onto the adjacent grass and into a parking lot.
While speaking with the operator of the vehicle, Michelle Mezick, the deputy detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her. The deputy initiated sobriety testing, during which Mezick performed poorly which prompted her arrest.
During subsequent processing the deputy learned that Mezick’s driver’s license had been both suspended and revoked by the State of Maryland following three previous convictions in alcohol related driving offenses. Mezick also refused to submit to a breath test during processing.
The deputy transported Mezick to the Central Booking Unit where she was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner released Mezick on Personal Recognizance.

On 11 May 2015 at 8:15 PM a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle that was operated by Stevie Jackson for a traffic violation on Jersey Road. Instead of stopping, Jackson accelerated and turned onto an adjacent street in what appeared to be an attempt to elude the deputy. Jackson lost control of his vehicle in the intersection of Booth Street and East Road, spinning out and driving into a yard.
Jackson continued on Booth Street running stop signs with the deputy in pursuit. At one point the deputy observed that Jackson threw a cup out the window, before stopping on West Road at Naylor Mill Road.
The deputy detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Jackson and also observed an open container of beer in the passenger compartment of Jackson’s vehicle. Jackson refused to submit to sobriety testing but consented to take a breath test which resulted in a reading of .15.
Jackson has two previous arrests for alcohol related driving offenses and is currently awaiting adjudication for an arrest for DUI from 7 April 2015.
The deputy transported Jackson to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. Following an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Jackson in the Detention Center in lieu of $5,000.00 bond.
