Delaware Police BeatTroopers Investigate Frederica Area Attempted Home Invasion

Frederica, DE – Delaware State Police report that troopers are investigating an attempted home invasion and robbery that occurred in the development of Barkers Landing late in the evening of April 27th.

Preliminary investigation reveals the incident occurred at approximately 9:05 p.m. Monday April 27, 2015 as a 37-year-old male victim had just returned home to his residence, located in the 100 block of Jury Drive, and was attempting to open the door to his house.  He was quickly approached from behind by male subject who began rummaging through his pockets and removed an undisclosed amount of money.  The suspect then struck the victim in the back of the head with a handgun causing him to fall to the ground.

The suspect then took the victim’s keys and attempted to open the front door but was unable to manage which key was the correct one.  At the same time, a 25-year-old male victim and 15-year-old male victim that were inside the residence, heard the commotion outside and fled through a rear window for their safety.

The 37-year-old male was able to get to his feet and began running from the house when the suspect fired one round from the handgun in the direction of the victim, but struck an automobile parked in the driveway.  The suspect then fled the area on foot in an unknown direction.  The 37-year-old was transported by EMS to Kent General Hospital where he was treated and released with a non-life-threatening injury to the back of his head.

The suspect was described as black male, wearing a red sweatshirt and blue jeans.  No other physical or clothing description was given.  He was armed with an unknown type handgun.
