Delaware State Police closed major highway and bridge for two hours after jumper leaped

MIDDLETOWN, DEL. -The Delaware State Police report that they are still investigating an incident where an unidentified subject jumped from the northbound lane of the Roth Bridge on Saturday April 11, 2015.

Delaware Police BeatThe leap occurred at approximately 2:33 p.m., when Troopers received calls from passing motorists of a subject on the Roth Bridge.   Moments later an unknown subject jumped off the side of the bridge.

A rescue operation was launched with numerous agencies to include the Delaware State Police Aviation Helicopter Trooper 4, Delaware State Police, rescue boats from Volunteer Fire Companies, New Castle County Police Department and DNREC.

Amusement Park GovernmentTroopers responded to the bridge and located the victim near the rocks on the south side of the canal west of the Saint Georges Bridge.

After the incident, lanes of Route 1 were closed for approximately two hours as police continued the investigation.

The investigation into this case is continuing, however, foul play is not suspected.

With witnesses clearly stating that the person had jumped off the bridge and wasn’t pushed; it will be interesting to learn if the Delaware State Police can justify shutting down a major highway and bridge for two hours.

The body wasn’t on the bridge, there was no culprit, the body was already discovered below on the rocks, yet the State Police closed the highway for two hours!  That’s it folks, from their own statement released to the public.
