The Dover Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident where a pedestrian was struck. The incident occurred at 4:47PM on Monday, March 16th when 19-year-old Brittany Paige (Dundalk, MD), was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on North State Street at the above mentioned location. The victim had been jogging on the west side (southbound) of North State Street.
Traffic was stopped facing southbound at the Walker Road intersection, when the victim walked eastbound between stopped vehicles. Numerous witnesses observed the victim looking at her cell phone with ear buds in her ears as she walked through the stopped traffic, then began to jog across the northbound lanes without looking for oncoming traffic.
The victim was struck by a Mazda sedan which had just turned left from Walker Road onto North State Street. The victim was rushed to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where she was later pronounced dead due to the injuries suffered in the accident.
