Wilmington, Del. – Delaware State Police report that they have arrested a Wilmington man after he was found to be in possession of a handgun and driving under the influence of alcohol following a brief vehicle pursuit that occurred early on the morning of Nov. 26, 2014.
The investigation has determined that the incident began on the morning of Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at approximately 12:05 a.m. as a Delaware State Trooper on routine patrol observed a Hyundai SUV commit a traffic violation in the area of DE Rt. 2 (Kirkwood Highway) and DE Rt. 7 (Limestone Road), west of Wilmington.
As the trooper activated the emergency equipment on his patrol vehicle in an effort to conduct a vehicle stop, the Hyundai, which was found to be operated by Jamil T. Biddle, 22, of Wilmington, fled westbound on Kirkwood Highway.
Police say that as Biddle reached the intersection of DE Rt. 2 and Green Valley Drive, he made a sudden U-turn and began traveling in an eastbound direction at a high rate of speed. Biddle then turned onto Farrand Drive and into the parking lot of the Farrand Village Apartments, where he was observed tossing an object from his car. Biddle’s vehicle then struck several parked cars in the complex where it came to rest. He then exited the car and fled on foot but was apprehended after a short foot chase.
It was later determined that Biddle had tossed a loaded .45 caliber handgun out of is car which was subsequently recovered by troopers. A search of the Hyundai revealed that Jamil Biddle was also in possession of approximately one gram of marijuana. Jamil Biddle was transported to Troop 6, Prices Corner, where he was arrested and charged with numerous offenses including Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of a Felony, Possession of Ammunition by a Person Prohibited, Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, Possession of Marijuana, and Criminal Mischief. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace 2 and released on $15,250.00 unsecured bail. There were no injuries as a result of this incident.
