CLEMENTS, MD. Maryland State Police report that on October 28, 2014 at 0136 hours Troopers from the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack, responded to MD Rt. 234 in the area of Delozier Lane, Mechanicsville, St. Mary’s County, Maryland for the report of a motor vehicle collision.

A 2004 Chrysler Sebring was traveling westbound on MD Rt. 234 west of Delozier Lane. The operator of the Chevrolet truck fell asleep and entered the westbound lane of MD Rt. 234.

The operator of the Chrysler attempted to take evasive maneuvers and entered the eastbound lane of MD Rt. 234 in an attempt to avoid the Chevrolet truck.

Police say the operator of the Chevrolet truck woke up and swerved back into the eastbound lane. The Chevrolet truck collided into the passenger side of the Chrysler. After the collision, the Chevrolet truck entered a ditch/culvert and overturned. The Chrysler also left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch on the eastbound side of MD Rt. 234.

The operator of the Chrysler was transported to Prince George’s Hospital via MSP helicopter Trooper 7. The operator of the Chevrolet truck refused treatment. The collision is being investigated by TFC Mersman, Maryland State Police- Leonardtown Barrack.

The State’s Attorney was notified of the collision and responded to the scene.

The Maryland State Highway Administration responded to the scene and assisted with the road closure and traffic detour. At this time, it appears that alcohol is not a factor in this collision.

Hunley’s driving record shows one speeding ticket and a guilty plea on Oct. 5, 2011 to failing to control his speed to avoid a collision, both of which could factor into what charges may be brought in this case, up to and including manslaughter by motor vehicle.
