Frankford, DE- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a single vehicle crash that killed an Ocean City man.

The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. this afternoon as Alfred E. Cochran, 75 of Ocean City, MD, was operating a 2007 Honda Accord eastbound on Gum Road just east of Pepper Road.  As the Accord entered into a slight left curve, at an apparent high rate of speed, the vehicle drove off the south edge of the road and struck a culvert pipe causing it to vault into the air.  Upon landing, the right front of the car struck the ground causing it to flip violently end over end before coming to a rest on the driver’s side in a ditch.  Cochran, who was properly restrained and the lone occupant, was partially ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.  Gum Road was closed for approximately two and a half hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
