Shields was charged with armed robbery, assault, use of a handgun in the commission of a felony crime and theft on a warrant on July 22, 2005, for an incident that court records say took place on Jan. 12, 2004. With gang violence sweeping through the former middle class communities of Silver Spring and Wheaton, Md., come stabbings, shootings and murders often associated with drug dealing and Mexican gangs. The latest such murder to take place in Wheaton, came the day before Montgomery County prosecutors and police held a press conference on Reedie Drive to discuss the indictment of the accused killer of the Lyons sisters who vanished on March 25, 1975.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the 65-year-old male victim who reported than an unknown male suspect threw a rock through the window of his hotel room, shattering the glass, and then climbed through the broken window, demanding money from the victim. When the victim hesitated, the suspect pulled out a knife and held it to threaten the victim. The victim then turned over an undisclosed amount of money to the suspect, who fled towards the front of the hotel property on Annapolis Road.
Detectives are also investigating an armed robbery at a convenience store in the 2900 block of Boones Lane in Forestville. Two suspects demanded cash from an employee on May 19th at about 11:15 pm. On scene officers learned that the victim, an 84-year-old male delivery driver from Pizza Hut, was attempting to make a delivery outside of a residence when three male suspects surrounded him. Two of the suspects pointed handguns at him and demanded the pizzas and any cash. The suspects fled on foot north from the location with money and the order
The initial investigation into this incident had indicated that the victim, who owns the property, was inside one of the apartments cleaning up when the suspects approached and entered the apartment. The thugs asked her where the tenant was and that the tenant owed them money. One of the suspects then pointed a gun at her and demanded her purse. The suspects then took her purse and fled the location.
