LEONARDTOWN, MD. – St. Mary’s Sheriff Tim Cameron reports that on July 23, 2015, Deputy Jason Smith was walking out of the District Court Carter building when he saw suspect Troy David Yates, age 49, of Lexington Park, who he knew from prior contact. Yates walked over to the victim and began to talk to the victim in violation of an active protective order.

The investigation revealed that the suspects would conceal their identity by donning clothing items over their faces and then make forced entry into the home of the victims and utilize firearms to commit robbery. During one of the home invasion robberies, two victims were shot and killed and during another, one victim was wounded during an exchange of gunfire.

While reviewing the evidence in this case, it was found the suspect used the victim’s bank card within an hour of conducting the burglary. Investigator Jones obtained surveillance photographs from the financial institutes where the victim’s bank card was used and positively identified the suspect as, Tyler Glen Mayers.
Detectives are also investigating an armed robbery at a convenience store in the 2900 block of Boones Lane in Forestville. Two suspects demanded cash from an employee on May 19th at about 11:15 pm. Police say that this alleged dirtbag hired two thugs from D.C., as if Baltimore is running low on them, and brought them to Towson, rented them a cheap hotel room and then directed them to rob his friends of their money and drugs.
Initial reports indicated that five men entered an apartment, engaged in some sort of disagreement and one was shot, another was wounded, and others fled the scene. There were at least two men at home in the apartment; neither were injured. Subsequent investigation revealed that the men were known to each other and that the incident was not characterized as a “random.” Detectives are still investigation motives for the incident.
It is at this time witnesses described observing Daniel Stephens pull out a handgun and shoot Minick. Zelina Smith, Tyrik Smith, Daniel Stephens and the juvenile then entered the vehicle that was being driven by Zelina Smith.
The initial investigation into this incident had indicated that the victim, who owns the property, was inside one of the apartments cleaning up when the suspects approached and entered the apartment. The thugs asked her where the tenant was and that the tenant owed them money. One of the suspects then pointed a gun at her and demanded her purse. The suspects then took her purse and fled the location.
