DWI HIT PARADE Easton Barrack of Maryland State Police rounded up 37 DUI drivers; Weak Caroline County Prosecutor Joe Riley’s Easy Deals

 EASTON, MD. — Drinking, drugging, driving and dying during the Christmas season is just a few weeks away and the troopers of the Easton, Maryland Barrack announced the most recent street cleaning of driving deviants.  An examination of several of those drivers arrested for DUI reveals several had prior DWI arrests with one of them let loose without a fine or jail time.

The Maryland State Police Easton Barrack reports that they continue working towards making our communities safer.  For the month of October 2017, Troopers assigned to the Barrack conducted 3345 traffic stops, made 37 impaired driving arrests, located and arrested 37 fugitives, conducted over 70 criminal investigations, seized two guns and participated in 9 initiatives targeting various criminal and traffic violations. 

During the last week of October, Troopers conducted the following investigations;

10/27/2017 Trooper Cannon conducted a traffic stop at Route 307 and Clark Canning House Road, Hurlock, Maryland and identified the driver as Volvy Joseph, 37, of 3459 Holland Drive, Federalsburg, Maryland.  Joseph was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, cited for possession of marijuana less than 10 grams and other traffic violations.  Joseph was released on his signature to his father.

10/27/2017 Trooper Laham conducted a traffic stop at Route 50 and Aireys Road, Cambridge, Maryland and identified the driver as Jarod Robert Kashner, 19, from Columbia, Pennsylvania and the passenger as Charles Raymond Foehrkolb 4th, 20, from York, Pennsylvania.  Kashner was arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance marijuana and was taken to the Dorchester County district court commission where he was released on his own recognizance.  Foehrkolb was cited for possession of marijuana less than 10 grams and was released on his signature.

10/28/2017 Trooper Allen conducted a traffic stop at Route 50 and Mills Road, Linkwood, Maryland.  The driver was identified as Ramiro Jovito Bravo, 58, of 3600 Rhode Island Ave., Mt. Rainier, Maryland. Bravo was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and other traffic violations.  He was taken before a Dorchester County district court commissioner and was released on his recognizance.  Bravo already has obtained a free taxpayer-provided attorney for this arrest and has a trial set on Dec. 28, 2017, in Dorchester District Court.

10/28/2017 Trooper Griffin conducted a traffic stop at New Street and Maple Ave., Trappe, Maryland.  The driver was identified as Brandi Sue Collins, 22 years of age from Greensboro, Maryland. Collins was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and other traffic violations.  She was released a sober driver pending a court date.

REPEAT OFFENDER DWI10/28/2017 Trooper Griffin conducted a traffic stop at Route 313 and Bridgetown Road, Goldsboro, Maryland.  The driver was identified as Ronnie Neal Smith, 56, of 290 Jebb Road, Wyoming, Delaware. Smith was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, cited for possession of marijuana greater than 10 grams, failure to remain at the scene of an accident and other traffic violations.  He was taken before a Caroline County district court commissioner and held on $10,000.00 bond which was posted the same day. Smith was charged with DWI by Caroline County Sheriff’s Deputy Labelle on March 7, 2017.

THE DEAL: sixty days in jail with all sixty days suspended and unsupervised probation for two years.

In a plea deal with the Caroline County States Attorney Joe Riley on May 24, 2017, Smith entered a plea of guilty. THE DEAL: sixty days in jail with all sixty days suspended and unsupervised probation for two years. A taxpayer provided a FREE attorney, Timothy Bradford, represented Smith and with no fine and no time, it is clear that States Attorney Joe Riley did nothing to protect or represent the people of Maryland, as once more, Smith was apprehended for DWI.

Repeat Offender Drunk Driver collided with Trooper’s Vehicle

 (Goldsboro, Maryland) On October 28, 2017, Troopers were on patrol in the northern area of Caroline County, Maryland on a drunk driving initiative during the early hours.

At 1:44 A.M at Route 313 and Bridgetown Road, Goldsboro, Caroline County, Maryland, Trooper Shane Hansley was on a traffic stop conducting a drunk driving investigation and was outside his vehicle.  While conducting his investigation, a black Nissan passenger vehicle being driven by Ronnie Neal Smith, 56 years of age from Camden Wyoming, Delaware, struck Hansley’s assigned patrol vehicle damaging the driver side mirror.  Smith continued driving after colliding with the state police vehicle. Troopers were able to locate and conduct a traffic stop on Smith.

Upon making contact with Smith, Troopers quickly identified that he showed signs of impairment by alcohol or other substances.  Smith was arrested for DUI, cited for possession of marijuana less than 10 grams, and issued numerous traffic violations to include driving while license suspended.

Smith was taken to a Caroline County court commissioner and was held on $10,000.00 bond. No injuries were reported during this investigation.

Smith is the 364th motorist arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs by the Maryland State Police Easton Barrack for 2017.  The Maryland State Police would like to remind motorist not to drive while impaired.

10/28/2017 Trooper Schweers conducted a traffic stop at Route 50 and Hiners Lane, Easton, Maryland and identified the driver as James Robert Coursey, 26, of Stevensville, Maryland.  Coursey was cited for possession of marijuana less than 10 grams and other traffic violation.  Coursey was released on his signature.

 

IN THE DITCH AND DWI

10/28/2017 Trooper Laham responded to a vehicle off the roadway in a ditch at El Dorado Road and Finchville Light, Rhodesdale, Maryland. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Megan Lynn Holloway, 37 of 25957 Kildee Run, Mardela Springs, Maryland.  As a result of this investigation, Holloway was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and issued several traffic violations. Holloway was released to a sober driver pending a court date.

REPEAT OFFENDER DWI: 10/29/2017 Trooper Kekich investigated a domestic first-degree assault at Route 50 and Laurwayn Drive, Trappe, Maryland between Anwar Dawud Turner, 43, of 223 B Port Street, Easton, Maryland, and a female adult. During the investigation, Turner returned to the scene operating a vehicle.  Turner was found to be under the influence of alcohol while operating the vehicle.  Turner was arrested for first-degree assault and driving under the influence of alcohol.  He was taken before a Talbot County district court commissioner and held at the local detention center with no bond. Turner was arrested for DWI by Dorchester County Sheriff’s Deputy Tolley on June 7, 2008. Turner entered a plea deal with the Dorchester County States Attorney on Jan. 15, 2009. THE DEAL: a sentence of 45 days in jail with 43 days suspended and a fine of $150.00

10/29/17 Trooper Hansley responded to a three-vehicle collision at Route 50 and Backtown Road, Trappe, Maryland.  The at-fault vehicle was operated by Mark Raymond Copper, 42, of 403 S. Washington St., Apt. 7, Easton, Maryland. Copper was arrested at 1:45 am for driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of marijuana less than 10 grams and other traffic violations. Copper was released to his mother pending a court date.  Copper entered a guilty plea to indecent exposure in Talbot County District Court on July 14, 2015, and in a plea deal with States Attorney Scott Patterson, he entered a guilty plea. THE DEAL: three years in prison with all but one year and six months suspended and probation for three years. The current arrest has triggered a probation hearing.

REPEAT OFFENDER DWI: 10/29/17 Trooper Laham conducted a traffic stop at Ocean Gateway and Schwaninger Road, Easton, Maryland and identified the driver as James Arnez Stanley, 50, of 9163 Honeysuckle Lane, Easton, Maryland.  Stanley was arrested at 1:37 am for driving under the influence of alcohol and other traffic violations.  Stanley was released to his wife pending a court date. Stanley was arrested for DWI by Maryland State Police Trooper Miller while operating a Kawasaki on Rt. 50 on the Malkus Bridge on Aug. 19, 2012. Stanley entered a guilty plea to DWI on May 8, 2013, in a plea deal with Talbot County States Attorney Scott Patterson. THE DEAL: in return for pleading guilty he was given a verdict of Probation Before Judgement with six months in jail and all of the jail time suspended and a fine of $435.00. Stanley was represented by attorney Jane Canter, of Easton.

10/29/17 Trooper Caraballo conducted a traffic stop at Route 480 and Eveland Road, Ridgely Maryland.  The driver was identified as a juvenile, 17 years of age from Denton, Maryland.  The juvenile driver was arrested and referred to the Caroline County Juvenile Services for driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of marijuana under 10 grams and other traffic violations.  The juvenile driver was released to a guardian.

10/30/17 Trooper Graef responded to the Caroline County district court commissioner’s office where he served two active bench warrants upon Colt Derek Towers, 33, of Preston, Maryland who surrendered to the Maryland State Police.

10/30/17 Trooper Short conducted a traffic stop at Route 50 and Rabbit Hill Road, Easton, Maryland and identified the driver as Cheyenne Dylan Cowles, 22, of Easton, Maryland.  Cowles was cited for possession of marijuana less than 10 grams and traffic violations.  Cowles was released on his signature.

10/31/17 Trooper Hansley assisted by the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office was able to serve three active arrest warrants upon Christina Marie Hickman, 29 years of age from Felton, Delaware. Hickman was wanted for second-degree assault and disorderly conduct.  She was held on $2500.00 bond.

10/31/17 Trooper Jenkins conducted a traffic stop at Ocean Gateway and Linkwood Drive, Linkwood, Maryland and identified the driver as Ahn Hoan Kim Lee, 29, from Salisbury, Maryland.  Lee was arrested on an active arrest warrant and taken before a Dorchester County district court commissioner.  Disposition is pending.
