Anthony Jason Schmidtman tried to run over Maryland Trooper

THUG CAPTURED

On 5/22/2017 at approximately 10:00 am, investigators from the Maryland State Police State Apprehension Team, the United States Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, Baltimore County / City Regional Auto Theft Task Force, and the Wilkens Precinct IST located the blue Dodge Caravan in the area of Washington Blvd and Bayard in Baltimore City, Maryland. Shortly afterward, task force members arrested Anthony Jason Schmidtman, who was occupying the above-listed vehicle. Schmidtman was wanted for the 1st Degree Assault on a State Trooper on May 20, 2017. The Blue Dodge Van was used in the assault seized. The Maryland State Police wish to thank the Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Anne Arundel County Police Departments for their assistance in this search.

HALETHORPE, MD. Maryland State Police report that Anthony Jason Schmidtman of 1051 6th Street, Glen Burnie, Md., assaulted a trooper at the Wawa in Glen Burnie and fled the scene.   

Police say that on May 21, 2017, at 5:38 pm, a trooper from the Golden Ring Barrack was investigating a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the Wawa located at 3716 Washington Blvd. Halethorpe, MD.

The vehicle was a  2006 Dodge Caravan blue bearing Maryland Registration M904798. The trooper made contact with the subject in the driver’s seat and immediately observed drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. He then ordered the subject out of the vehicle.

The trooper had the subject wait near the rear of the van so he could call for additional units. The subject then ran back to the driver’s seat in an attempt to flee the scene. The trooper attempted to get the subject out of the vehicle when the subject put the vehicle in reverse and accelerated. The vehicle then struck the trooper’s arm as he was standing in the doorway.

 Police say that the trooper was able to avoid injury and to get out of the way of the vehicle. The van then accelerated forward toward the trooper, he was able to quickly move out of the way. The vehicle went around the Wawa parking lot and fled the scene.

  Through the investigation, a suspect has been identified as Anthony Jason Schmidtman, a white male, 35 years old, from Glen Burnie, MD.  If anyone has information on the whereabouts of Schmidtman or the Blue Dodge Caravan, please contact the Golden Ring Barrack at 410-780-2700 or call 911.

Schmidtman was charged with three counts of drug possession in Anne Arundel County by Anne Arundel Police Officer Giunta on March 20, 2017.

On seven counts of theft, with a court appearance missed on May 15, 2017, a bench warrant was issued in Anne Arundel District Court.  Schmidtman has earned traffic charges by the dozen or more on many occasions in recent years, with being found without a driver’s license a top citation.
