
Crash killed six out of sixteen in van turn-over on I-95
CAROLINE COUNTY, VA.- Virginia State Police report that six out of sixteen people riding in a van and were killed at about 12:30 am on June 18, 2016, in a two-vehicle crash in Caroline County were all from Mexico and Guatemala. The crash occurred on Interstate 95 northbound at the 112.4 mile marker.
The six passengers killed in the crash included four males, one female and one male juvenile. To date, state police have been able to make next of kin notification for five of the six decedents:
Epifanio Texmoxtle, 33, of Mexico (male)
Elvira Montiel, 40, of Mexico, (female)
Josè Montiel, 5, of Mexico (male & son of Elvira Montiel)
Andres F. Francisco, 36, of Guatemala (male)
Juan Diego, 37, of Guatemala (male)
Virginia State Police Trooper S. Page is investigating the crash.

According to Sgt. Stephan Vick of the Virginia State Police, the 1998 Dodge van traveling north on I-95 when it ran off the road to the left came back right across two travel lanes striking a 2016 Toyota Camry in the right lane, after impact the Toyota spun out in the road, the Dodge van continued off the road to the right overcorrecting back left and overturning approximately five to six times. Six passengers in the van were ejected, and as often takes place when those who are not wearing seat belts, were killed.

The driver of the 1998 Dodge van and nine other passengers were transported to Mary Washington Hospital and Spotsylvania Regional Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the 2016 Toyota was not injured. The six passengers that were ejected included four males one female and one juvenile all of which died at the scene. The van had a total of sixteen occupants.
The crash investigation is being assisted by the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team and currently remains under investigation. Police say that the names of the deceased will be released pending next of kin notification.
