<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">PARSONBURG, MD. &#8212; According to police, a man terrorized his family with a hatchet, pushed his mother down a flight of stairs and struck his father as he went on a holiday rampage.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis reports that on January 1, 2016, at 6:30 PM a Wicomico Sheriff’s deputy arrested Ian Thomas Schweiger on a warrant which was issued on Dec. 30, 2015, in connection with a domestic-related assault that took place at a residence at 32328 Old Ocean City Road in Parsonsburg.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">During this incident, it was alleged that Schweiger became irate with his parents, with whom he resides, and a physical altercation ensued. According to his parents, he struck his father and pushed his mother down a flight of stairs. It is also alleged that while Schweiger was in his irate state, he also damaged several areas inside the residence with a hatchet.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Upon arrest</span>,<span style="font-size: 12pt;"> the deputy transported Schweiger to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. Following an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Schweiger in the Detention Center in lieu of $20,000.00 bond on charges of Assault 2nd Degree, Reckless Endangerment and Malicious Destruction of Property.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">According to court records, Schweiger remains in jail.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">In Wicomico County Circuit Court, Schweiger was found guilty of assault on July 15, 2010, and was sentenced to prison for 6 years, 7 months and 28 days with none of the time suspended. He was given credit for time served of 109 days. On Aug. 13, 2010, a request to modify the sentence was filed and opposed by the Wicomico County States Attorney, along with a request for evaluation for drugs and alcohol, which were sent to Somerset County Circuit Court Judge Daniel M. Long. Other prior charges included failing to return to jail when on work release and bringing contraband into the jail.</span></p>
