WESTMORELAND, VA. — A gang of thieves preying on property owners who use golf carts to get around has been sidelined by the Westmoreland Sheriff after the alleged dirtbags who stole the carts and allegedly took them off to West Virginia.

An extensive investigation conducted by the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the arrest of five individuals on 105 charges in reference to several golf cart larcenies that took place between July and September 2015. One individual, Robert J. Beach, has been charged, but police say he is not yet in custody.   

The investigation led sheriff’s office detectives and deputies to Wyoming County, West Virginia where the golf carts had been transported and recovered. All recovered golf carts have been returned to the rightful owner. The Westmoreland Sheriff credited the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office for assisting in the investigation.

Those arrested to include charges are:

Christopher A. Bowen, 28 years old, 4 counts each – Grand Larceny, Conspire to Commit Grand Larceny and Commit Grand Larceny with the Intent to Sell. No Bond

Curtis A. Bowen, 28 years old, 2 counts each – Grand Larceny, Conspire to Commit Grand Larceny and Commit Larceny with the Intent to Sell. No Bond

Jonathan A. Bowen, 31 years old, 9 counts each – Grand Larceny, Conspire to Commit Grand Larceny and Commit Larceny with the Intent to Sell. Jonathan Bowen is also charged with one count of Attempt to Commit Grand Larceny and one count of Destruction of Property. No Bond

Michelle K. Johnson, 31 years old, 9 counts each – Grand Larceny, Conspire to Commit Grand Larceny and Commit Larceny with the Intent to Sell.  Johnson is also charged with one count of Attempt to Commit Grand Larceny and one count of Destruction of Property. Secured Bond

Austin D. Stewart, 19 years old, 9 counts each – Grand Larceny, Conspire to Commit Grand Larceny and Commit Larceny with the Intent to Sell. Stewart is also charged with one count of Attempt to Commit Grand Larceny and one count of Destruction of Property. No Bond

All are scheduled for first court appearance on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, in Westmoreland County General District Court.
