Fatal Crashes Pile Up Across Virginia, Purnell Davis Dead in crash into tree
PETERSBURG, VA. — Virginia State Police was called upon to investigate a single vehicle accident which occurred on NB Route 616, South of Route 617.
At approximately 9:29 pm on Aug. 9, 2015, a 2014 Nissan Versa was traveling northbound Route 616 when the driver, Purnell Davis, of Petersburg, Va., ran off the roadway and struck a tree.
Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya reports that Davis was not wearing his safety belt at the time of the accident and died at the scene. It was unknown if alcohol was a factor.

SUFFOLK, VA., Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya reports that on August 9, 2015 at approximately 8:54 pm a crash caused by a reckless driver on a motorcycle resulted in that driver’s death.
The accident occurred southbound I-664 at College Drive in Suffolk, Virginia.
A 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when the driver cut in front of another vehicle at the entrance ramp to College Drive, lost control and struck the guardrail, ejecting the driver.
The driver, Haywood Lee Day, 57, of the 5400 block of Sports Club Run, Suffolk, died at the scene. It is unknown at this time if alcohol played a factor in the crash. Currently Virginia State Police is investigating a single vehicle motorcycle crash that has resulted in a fatality. The accident occurred at approximately 8:54 p.m., westbound I-664 at College Drive.
Man dead after slamming into the stopped van
RICHMOND, VA. – A Henrico man was killed Sunday (August 9) in a two-vehicle crash in Caroline County. The crash occurred at 3:10 p.m., on Route 1 southbound (Jefferson Davis Highway) at the intersection of Route 712 (Green Road).
Virginia State Police Trooper M. C. Hite investigated the crash.
A 2005 Chrysler minivan was stopped on Route 1 (south) making a left turn onto Route 712 (Green Road) when it was struck in the rear by a 2006 Honda motorcycle.
The driver of the 2005 Chrysler, Phillip J. Coleman, 63, of Caroline County, Virginia was not injured in the crash; he was wearing a seatbelt. The operator of the 2006 Honda motorcycle, Michael B. Gabriele, 68 of Henrico County, Virginia was transported to MCV Hospital where he died from injuries sustained in the crash; he was wearing a helmet.
There are no charges in the crash, according to Virginia State Police Sgt. Stephan Vick.
Betty Hamilton killed when hit head-on by pickup driven by James McGinnis
Nottoway County- A Burkeville, Virginia woman died as a result of injuries she received in a crash that occurred on Friday August 8, 2015. The two vehicle crash occurred at approximately 11:43 a.m. on Route 723 (Lewiston Plank Road), approximately ¼ mile south of Route 650 (Shutt Road) in Nottoway County.
Virginia State Police Trooper D. S. Eggleston is investigating the crash.
A 1997 Dodge Ram was traveling south on Lewiston Plank Road when it crossed over into the north bound lanes and struck a 2003 Buick La Sabre head-on.
The driver of the Dodge, James A. McGinnis, 53 of Crewe, Va., who was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Buick, Betty H. Hamilton, 79 of Burkeville, Va., was transported to Southside Regional Hospital and later to MCV hospital where she died from injuries sustained in the crash; she was wearing a seatbelt.
No charges have been filed at this time as the crash remains under investigation.
Two killed when speeding Honda went airborne into trees
Goochland County- Two people died late Friday evening August 7, 2015 after the vehicle they were in ran off the road and down an embankment. The crash occurred sometime after 11:30 pm on Friday (August 7) Route 250 eastbound, 1/10 mile west of Cloverfield Lane in Goochland County.
Virginia State Police Trooper T. S. Thompson is investigating the crash.
The troopers investigation revealed that a 2004 Honda was traveling east on Route 250 when the vehicle ran off the left shoulder and struck a guard rail. The vehicle then went airborne striking several trees and coming to rest down an embankment partially ejecting one of the occupants.
The male and female in the vehicle died at the scene. They were not wearing seatbelts.
Sgt. Stephan Vick of the Virginia State Police reports that speed is being considered a factor in the crash which remains under investigation.
The two occupants have been identified as Gregory M. Robinson, 40 of Henrico County and Liann N. Fazendaker, 32 of Goochland County.
