GAITHERSBURG, MD. – Why does a motorist drive the wrong way on a highway? Most of the time, booze is involved in the cruise and Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a serious collision that occurred in Gaithersburg.

On Saturday, August 8, at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to the area of Muddy Branch Road and West Diamond Avenue for the report of a single-vehicle collision. Officers located a 2004 Infiniti and three occupants. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the Infiniti was traveling north in the southbound lanes of Muddy Branch Road and struck a traffic island at the intersection of West Diamond Avenue.

A 6-year-old male passenger was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. An 8-year-old male passenger was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver, identified as Ana C. Martinez De Sanchez, age 28, of the 17000 block of Downing Street in Gaithersburg, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Detectives are investigating alcohol as a contributing factor to this collision.
