  • As the pursuit continued east on Route 460 near the Town of Windsor, the fleeing felon Futrell crashed into an Acura SUV, abandon his vehicle, fleeing on foot. Futrell fled to a nearby wrecker company where he stole a tow truck. Troopers terminated the pursuit to render assistance to the driver and passenger of the Acura SUV.

Fleeing Felonious Futrell sits in a cell wishing he had apple pie!

CASWELL, N. C. — The trouble with running from the law is that sooner or later the long arm of the law is going to snatch a criminal and plop him into a jail cell.  It’s just a matter of time.  That’s because, that is what lawmen do!

Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya reports that a fugitive who wrecked a Lexus while speeding away from police, then stole a tow truck and vamoosed.

Now he is behind bars in North Carolina.

Police say that on May 18, 2015, Virginia State Police initiated a traffic stop westbound Route 460 at Route 600 on a 2007 Lexus for speeding, 74 MPH in a properly posted 55 MPH zone. During the course of the traffic stop, the trooper confirmed the male driver as Joel Donte Futrell, 23, of the 500 block of Camertree Way, Newport News, Virginia. Along with the traffic violation, Futrell was also wanted by Hampton Police, with warrants on file.

As the trooper approached the Lexus, Futrell fled from the scene, and a pursuit was initiated.

Futrell fled to a nearby wrecker company where he stole a tow truck. Troopers terminated the pursuit to render assistance to the driver and passenger of the Acura SUV.

On May 28th, 2015, Joel D. Futrell was arrested in North Carolina by North Carolina Highway Patrol. Felonious Futrell was taken to Caswell County Jail and is being held until his extradition back to Virginia.
