Reports of firearms violations resulted in charges for both the suspect and the complainant Saturday night.

CULPEPER, VA. Culpeper County Sheriff’ Office reports that at about 5:46 PM Saturday, January 3, 2014, Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a person with a gun in the 9000 block of General Winder Road.

When deputies arrived, Johnny R. Burrell, 65, (shown above at left) of Rapidan, reported that Robert W. Woolen was on his property and had pointed a gun at him and threatened him with it. Woolen’s pickup was at the residence, but Woolen was gone on arrival.

Burrell identified himself as a law enforcement officer. After additional deputies, Virginia State Police, and a K9 from Fauquier searched for about 90 minutes, Burrell retracted his statement that Woolen was armed.

Woolen, 61, of Stafford, was found shortly thereafter and arrested for drunk in public by Deputy Charles Burgoon. He was committed to Culpeper County Jail until sober. Woolen reported that Burrell threatened him with a knife but refused to press charges.

At about 8:36 PM CCSO received a report of shots fired and someone hollering at the same address. When Deputy Burgoon arrived, he found Woolen’s pickup vandalized- with the windows broken, the tires slashed, and the headlights knocked out. During his investigation, Burgoon recovered a wooden baseball bat used by Burrell to break the glass. Burrell reported that Woolen threatened him with something, and he reacted by getting a butcher knife and swinging it at him. Burrell was arrested for attempted malicious wounding, destruction of property, impersonating a law enforcement officer, and false report to a law enforcement officer. He is held at Culpeper County Jail without bond.
