Walter Dickie BarnesWalter “Dickie” Barnes, Jr., 67 of Ridge, passed away surrounded by loved ones on December 18, 2014.  He was a proud and active resident of St. Mary’s County.  He was a member of the American Legion, Lions Club, Optimist Club and VFW.  His hobbies included hunting, playing cards, spending time with family and helping others in any way he could.

He is proceed in death by his grandparents; Spenser and Edith Barnes, his parents; Walter and Ann (Szymczyk) Barnes, father-in-law; John S. Foote and sister; Nancy Long.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Martha Barnes of Ridge, MD, daughter; Sandra (Joe) Birch of Lexington Park, MD and son; Raymond (Nathan) Barnes of Washington, DC.  He is also survived by 2 grandchildren; Jarred and Peyton and 2 step-grandchildren; Joseph and Anthony.  He also had a niece that was like a second daughter to him; Shelly (Ronnie) Raley and her sons Dustin and Casey that he thought of like his grandsons. Brothers and sisters; Louis (Joann) Barnes of Rock Hill, SC, Timothy (Ginger) Barnes of Mechanicsville, MD, David (Karen) Barnes of Lusby, MD, Ellen (Dave) Holcomb of Leonardtown, MD, Edna Boothe of Mechanicsville, MD, Susan Barnes of Upper Marlboro, MD and Ruth (Jack) Wallon of New Richmond, OH. He is survived by a lot of nieces, nephews, cousins and lots of friends that he called family.

Dickie didn’t want a memorial service so a celebration of life will happen in the spring as he wanted.  Details as to when and where will be announced as it is arranged.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad, 16515 Three Notch Road, Ridge, MD 20680 or the Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, 13820 Point Lookout Road, Ridge, MD 20680.
