<h2> One man who has had two DUI convictions may have been the driver</h2>
<p>MOUNT AIRY, MD. &#8212; Four men who were in a pickup truck that left the roadway Friday night in Howard County and overturned after striking a tree have been convicted of DUI in Maryland, including one who was killed in the crash.</p>
<p>The survivors include one of whom has two prior DUI convictions and may have been the driver, are now in a trauma unit.</p>
<p>Howard County police report that they are investigating the single-vehicle collision that occurred on Shaffersville Road in Mount Airy on Dec. 12, 2014 just before midnight.</p>
<p>Police say that their preliminary investigation reveals a 2001 Ford F-350 pick-up was traveling northbound on Shaffersville Road between Shaffers Mill Road and Long Corner Road. The vehicle left the roadway, overturned and struck a tree. Howard County Police did not disclose which one of the occupants of the vehicle was the driver of the truck.</p>
<p><strong>Tomanek had prior DUI eight years ago; again in 2014</strong>.</p>
<p>Maryland court records show that a 2001 Ford – the same year and make of the vehicle in the crash – was being driven on Feb. 14, 2014 by <strong>Karl Joseph Tomanek</strong>, one of the occupants of the truck that crashed. On that date, Tomanek was <strong>cited for DUI</strong> on Md. Rt. 27 at Twin Arch Road near the fire department grounds by Maryland State Trooper Michael Karas. Tomanek entered a guilty plea on May 15, 2014 and was sentenced to six months in jail with the sentence suspended by the Judge in Carroll County District Court. He was fined $300 and put on supervised probation. Tomanek was represented by <strong>Laurel attorney C. Michael Walls.</strong></p>
<p>He entered a guilty plea in Howard County District Court on Aug. 1, 2006 to a charge of DUI after being stopped on Centennial Lane at Frederick Road on April 5, 2006 by a Howard County Police Officer. Tomanek was fined $350 and sentenced to six months in jail with all of his sentence suspended by the Howard County District Court Judge.</p>
<p>Tomanek was ticketed for speeding at the rate of 83 mph in a 65 mph speed zone on I-70 on Aug. 7, 2014. He entered a guilty plea on Oct. 15, 2014 and was fined $134.50 in Howard County District Court.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.the-chesapeake.com//wp-content/uploads/2014/04/DWI-Hit-Parade-dating-service.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-3672" src="https://www.the-chesapeake.com//wp-content/uploads/2014/04/DWI-Hit-Parade-dating-service-267x300.jpg" alt="DWI Hit Parade dating service" width="267" height="300" /></a>An occupant of the vehicle, <strong>James Nichols Dejordy</strong>, 26, of 5509 Trotter Road, Clarksville, died in the crash. Five other occupants were transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in stable condition.</p>
<p>They have been identified as: <strong>Devon Elaine Markowitz</strong>, 24, of Woodbine; <strong>Seth Stevens Jackson</strong>, 23, of Dayton; <strong>Karl Joseph Tomanek,</strong> 28, of 1170 Shaffersville Rd., Mt. Airy; <strong>Andrew Brooke Stabler</strong>, 33, of Mt. Airy, and <strong>Jeffery Paul Feldblum,</strong> 25, of Highland.</p>
<p>Shaffersville Road was closed to thru traffic until 4:30 am on Dec. 13th as part of the investigation. Police say that the collision remains under investigation.</p>
<p>Maryland court records show that <strong>Dejordy</strong> was <strong>cited for DUI</strong> on Feb. 17, 2013 by <strong>Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputy K. Radcliffe</strong>. In Carroll Court District Court on June 6, 2013, he entered a guilty plea and was given probation before judgment by the court. Dejordy was fined $100 and put on supervised probation.</p>
<p><strong>Andrew Stabler</strong>, one of those taken to a trauma center, was <strong>cited for DUI</strong> on May 26, 2006 by a Maryland State Trooper as he drove on Ridge Road at Blacksmith Road in Carroll County. He was given probation before judgment in Carroll County District Court on Sept. 20, 2006 and fined $242.50 and no jail time.</p>
<p>Maryland court records also show that a fourth member of the Friday night joyride has been convicted of drunk driving. <strong>Jeffrey Paul Feldblum,</strong> of 6790 Santa Lucia Drive in Highland, Md., was stopped while driving northbound on Rt. 219 at Mountainview Drive in Garrett County on Feb. 25, 2012 by Maryland State Trooper A. Nelson and <strong>cited for DUI.</strong> In Garrett County District Court on May 1, 2012, he entered a guilty plea and was given probation before judgment, fined $500 and sentenced to ninety days in jail, with all of the jail time suspended. In addition, the judge also suspended half of the fine. Feldblum was represented by <strong>Hampstead attorney Michael A. Stoner.</strong></p>
<p>Neither Jackson nor Markowitz had any Maryland DUI arrests or convictions.</p>
