Maryland State Police charged Nicholas Thompson-Riviere with DUI after he crashed into tree along Rt. 90 near Ocean City

DUI-Related Collision:  The Maryland State Police in Berlin report that on November 1, 2014 at approximately 0202 hrs, troopers responded to MD Route 90 and Ocean Parkway for a reported single vehicle collision.  Through the investigation it was determined Nicholas Thompson-Riviere of Bishopville, Maryland, was driving westbound along MD Route 90 when he lost control.  The vehicle he was driving left the right roadside, struck a guardrail and then struck a tree.   The vehicle was destroyed and Thompson-Riviere had to be extricated from the wreckage, and he was taken to PRMC in Salisbury for injuries.  Troopers noted an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Thompson-Riviere, and he was subsequently charged with DUI.  Troopers want to remind drivers not to drink and drive, and if you notice a vehicle being driven erratically to notify the Berlin Barrack at 410-641-3101 or dial #77 from your cell phone.  Stopping an impaired driver could save a life.

Motor Vehicle Collision:  Maryland State Police report that on October 29, 2014, at approximately 0858 hrs, troopers were dispatched to MD Route 610 at Peerless Road regarding a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle.  Troopers arrived and determined Richard Lee Stafford was operating a 1982 Kawasaki motorcylce along MD Route 610 when he collided with a 2002 Chevrolet S10.  The driver of the Chevrolet, John Emory Taylor, was attempting to turn from Peerless Road onto MD Route 610 when he failed to yield to the motorcycle.  Taylor was not injured in the collision, but Stafford was taken to PRMC for treatment of his injuries.  The collision is still under investigation and charges are pending.

DUI Arrests for October:  Troopers assigned to the Berlin Barrack arrested 17 drivers for driving while impaired during the month of October.

Untaxed Cigarettes Arrest:  On October 13, 2014 at approximately 1905 hrs, troopers stopped a 2014 Jeep Cherokee for speeding in the area of US Route 113 and Germantown Road.  During the traffic stop numerous cartons of cigarettes were observed in the vehicle.  A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed there to be 513 cartons of untaxed cigarettes.  The retail value of the cigarettes was $33,088.50 with a tax loss to the State of Maryland of $10,260.00.  The driver, Baleek M. Thabet of New York, was arrested and transported to the Maryland State Police Barrack in Berlin for processing.  The Maryland State Comptroller’s Office assisted with the case.

DUI Arrests for September:  Troopers assigned to the Berlin Barrack arrested 36 drivers for driving while impaired in September.
