WESTMINISTER, MD (September 11, 2014) – Deputy State Fire Marshals charged two 17 year-old male students for their involvement with setting off a firecracker inside the Automotive Department at the Carroll County Career and Technology Center located at 1229 Old Washington Road in Westminster.
An investigation by both the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office revealed the incident occurred at approximately 9:40 a.m. this morning. An 18 year-old male student received a minor injury to his left eye when the illegal firework exploded as he tried to extinguish the device. He was treated and released at the Nurses Office on campus.
Both juvenile males have been charged with Possessing and/or Discharging Fireworks and Disruption of School Activities. The male student determined responsible for lighting the device was also charged with Reckless Endangerment. Both youths were referred to their parent’s custody pending the Department of Juvenile Services actions.
