Mommy Dearest: Woman told police she murdered her two children
CHEVERLY, MD. — The Prince George’s County Police Department reports that detectives have arrested a mother for killing her two young children in Cheverly. The suspect is 24-year-old Sonya Spoon of the 6200 block of Forest Road. The victims are one-year-old Ayden Spoon and three-year-old Kayla Thompson.
On September 7, 2014, at about 2:15 am, patrol officers were called to the home on Forest Road for the report of two unconscious children. The children were rushed to a hospital where they both died. Their deaths have been ruled homicides.
Sonya Spoon was taken into custody on the scene. She did admit to suffocating her children inside the home. The official cause of their deaths is pending. The motive is under investigation.
Spoon is charged with two counts of first degree murder. She is in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no bond status.
57 Year Old Son Charged with First Degree Murder of Mother
ROCKVILLE, MD. Evidently mom might have been a little slow in croaking and needed some help. Police say that a Rockville man stabbed his mother to death and then set fire to the house to cover up his mayhem.
Major Crimes detectives have charged Hani Haleem, age 57, of Iris Street in Rockville, with the murder of his 82-year-old mother, Somaya Haleem, of the same address.
On Thursday, September 4 at approximately 4:30 a.m., Fire/Rescue personnel and 4th District officers responded to 4610 Iris Street in Rockville for a house fire. Fire/Rescue units rescued Somaya Haleem from a second-story window. She was transported to a local trauma center where she was pronounced deceased. An examination of her body revealed stab wounds in addition to injuries caused by the fire.
Detectives interviewed her adult son, Hani Haleem, who lived with his mother at that residence. During the interview, Hani Haleem admitted to stabbing his mother multiple times. Investigators believe he then started a fire in the home.
The victim’s body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy. The findings of the autopsy are pending.
Hani Haleem has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond.
